Crunch Time II
December 12th, 2005 - 9:10 pm
The last (I hope) big shopping trip is out of the way, and I’m caught up (mostly) on the gift-wrapping. So you’d think blogging would be a breeze. You’d be wrong.
Melissa is taking a year off work starting today. Now we have to get used to seeing each other all the time. There are projects to complete and a few other tiny little matters to attend to. But the nights, for the moment, are still mine.
Back in a few, after I crawl the web for whatever is worth a second drink.

And any time now things are going to get EVEN MORE complicated and busy, aren’t they? (When is she due?)
Oh my God.
What a change in life is now upon you.
If your postings become suddenly more sparse (or suddenly more prolific), we’ll understand.
Best of wishes to you, your wife, and your offspring-to-be.
For the Holidays, and beyond.
At least you have alcoholic beverages in abundance to soothe your frazzled nerves.
Unsolicited advice: the transition from working to staying at home is a lot more bizarre than nearly anyone suspects. I got laid off over seven years ago and decided to stay home with the kids, and feelings of resentment, inadequacy, frustration, blahblahblah still bubble up from time to time. I love my kids and this is without a doubt both the hardest and most important job I’ll ever have, but man — sometimes I just want to have a life, what I remember life used to be.
Then I remember that time goes by too quickly as it is, and I get over myself. So: be patient with each other while you figure out the new family dynamic.
Many blessings to you and your growing family.
Joan! So true. The isolation for the stay-at-home parent (SAP) can be almost unbearable, but if the spouse is working at home, as mine did when our first baby was born, there’s some undue and unfair pressure on that spouse to keep the other entertained–a lot of bumping into each other too.
Good luck, Stephen, and be good to one another, but esp. be good your wife.
Nancy – from what I’ve seen of the weekly recipes and the vacation pictures, I don’t think Melissa has a lot to worry about on that front.
Stephen – APPRECIATE THIS TIME! I speak from experience, there is no other time like it. That your spouse is able to remain at home makes things double-double good. Just make sure you block out times for you yourself, for her herself, and for you and her each individually with the Rugrat outside of home. You will like the results.
Best to all the Greens!
