The WTC-sited “Freedom Center” is toast:
After Governor Pataki ordered the embryonic Freedom Center off the memorial quadrant on Wednesday, the center’s founders responded almost immediately by putting an end to the entire project, saying it was intended exclusively for the ground zero site and could not be placed elsewhere.
None too soon, either.
The first half of the story relates the final final plans for the WTC – and this time, they mean it.

Even being an atheist I can say, “thank god for that.”
Every victory over the blame america first crowd must be savored.
Maybe the National Endowment for the Arts will step into the breach and provide us with a real memorial now.
Umm … why is everybody staring at me like that?
An absolute disgrace from the start. Couldn’t we predict that putting a group of college professors in charge of this thing would produce an anti-American monstrosity? Glad that we finally woke up.
As Michelle M. points out we can all thank the conservative woman Sen from NY. Had she not come out hard against “Freedom” it would still be considered. Hill is doing a real conservative make over. Last week she also came out against the nonconservative or unconservative Chief of the SCOTUS.
I hear that her conservative views are hurting her witin her own party. But if she gets the nimination only Dr. Rice will have achance against her.
One very savy woman – note I did *not* say lady.
I noticed Hillary had become conservative early splring. At the time MoveOn,Soros, ACLU and Bush were callint the Minutemen “Vigilantes”. She came out and supported them. Said how can we win the War on Terror if we can not prevent terrorists from sneaking in like the did for 911 and attacking us from within.
She has been very conservative in Sep. Almost like Goldwater reborn or Ronnie. Of course she was a “Goldwater Girl” in 64 so being conservative and against Roberts actually fits with her history.
For all the cheap talk about neocons, we’re a pretty cheap date.
If Hillary comes out strong against terror and isn’t too cozy with the U.N. I could vote for her.
Not against Condi, though, naturally.
The problem with Hillary isn’t what she’ll do to get elected… it’s what she’ll do once she’s won the election.
Think back to the early 90s. Imagine how it would have gone if she had actual power back then.
bleah.
After a great deal of research, we have found a suitable site for the Freedom Center, where they can have it just as they originally wished. And it is only 150 miles from New York . . . to the southeast. However, if they are worried about polluting the shoreline, they can select a site beyond the continental shelf where the water is deeper.

How about across the street from the UN?
