Saudi Arabia’s King Fahd has died.
Things are about to get interesting in Saudi Arabia, with regards to Fahd’s succession, but my knowledge of Saudi internal politics is superficial at best.
Looks like I’m going to have to read up on Saudi politics and history ASAP to have any kind of ‘real time’ understanding of events as they unfold there.
One thing I wonder about though, how will this affect Saudi financing of their brand of fundamentalism abroad and their unquestioning support of the Wahabbis at home?
That is extremely dependent on exactly who comes out on top in the sucession struggle, who supported them, and exactly what favors were demanded and granted in order to secure that support.
We live in interesting times.
