Because really poor people just don’t have time for fringe politics. Oh, you can hire them to wear a bombvest if they’re desperate enough, but they don’t the discretionary time or money to take away from getting through daily life, or the education for all the ideo/theology…
Took a page straight outta the Soviet’s playbook. Kim Philby and the rest of his cell of traitors were all recruited when they were at Cambridge. Worked for them.

Poor folks don’t have enough self loathing to fight for the cause like the dissafected sions of the upper and middle classes. What you need are spoiled trust-funders who were reared by their nanny’s while mommy and daddy spent their all time jet-setting on the continent.

That’s the same class of people who carried out the 9/11 attacks. There’s nothing new here. I don’t know how the poverty theory survives- well, other than through pure faith.

Interesting. I know a fellow here in San Antonio who was a music major (degreed) who decided to return to school and get a degree in electrical engineering. Boom! Now I hear he’s converted to Islam.
None of the Muslims involved in 911 were poor. Not one of them was deprived. They were all either rich (like Ben Ladin) or well-to-do.
Yeah, the poverty theory is pretty weak. There are plenty of poor people around the world, and not all of them are terrorists. Not even most of them, nor even a lot of them.
All of the sympathy for terrorist “freedom fighters” among America’s well-to-do should be enough to disprove the poverty myth once and for all.
There’s a fair amount of money, power and prestige (well, sorta) in oppression. The desire to keep those things, combined with a hatred for Western culture which tends to discourage oppression, seems a far more likely candidate for the title of “root cause.”
The overwhelming majority of foreigners get most of their exposure to Western culture from either the Universities or the Films. Both sectors are controlled by America-hating liberals in the Move-on.com mold. The reason the terrorists hate us is the Stones and Moores and Fisks have been telling them to. They use rhetoric and propoganda instead of bombs, but their goal is the same as the Al Quidiots, an assault on the American way of life. We’ll beat the terrorits over there eventually, whether we can beat the enemy within is still an open question.
The poor never start anything. Someone starts them! Off the cuff there is Bin Laden? Poor? Not. There was Lenin? Poor? Not.
It is about Power. It is about Control. It is about Money. Like why not? Heck the poor don’t need it. Kidding of course.
