Air Warfare By the Numbers
More Air America woes:
Air America apparently is not flying too well in Philly. The liberal talk network’s home since Aug. 30 is WHAT-AM (1340), which airs shows by Al Franken (noon to 3 p.m.) and Randi Rhodes (3 to 7 p.m.). Arbitron ratings for fall were released last week. Though specific numbers are not available for Franken’s time slot, a check of Rhodes’ finds that WHAT’s ratings have dropped.
Among total listeners ages 12 and older, the station managed a 0.5 rating in fall 2003; it got a 0.3 this time. The “cume,” the cumulative number of weekly listeners, fell from 22,000 to 17,800. By comparison, Sean Hannity and Dom Giordano on talk rival WPHT-AM (1210) had a 4.4 rating and cume of 217,800 weekly listeners; the top afternoon-drive station was WBEB-FM (101.1), with a 7.6 rating and a cume of 441,100.
Ouch.

Apparently Steve Bosell is now suing Air America for the psychological trauma and stress he incurred by their pretense to viability.
The ONLY person I know who listens to Air America does so by web streaming — of course, her office is in the basement of a building and she’d have to, anyway . . . .

Air America is almost certainly non-viable. It is NPR without the dole. (Hat Tip Vodkapundit)…
Also note that Philly is anything but a bastion of conservatism.
Trying to keep my eyes and ears open to both sides, I have listened to Air America a few times. I was a bit disappointed, because Al Franken has done some stuff I have liked in the past. But all politics aside, its just horrible radio. Painfully horrible. If you really wanted to torture a confession out of a terrorist, make them listen to that crap all day.
I loath Sean Hannity, but the few times I have listened to him, there at least seemed to be an adult in charge somewhere in the production process, who seemed to be trying to keep the show moving along and listenable. I have probably spent twice as much time listening to Rush (i.e., 2 total hours in my life), and he seems better at that too.
I don
jmaster.
You are so right. Snicker, snicker. Just preaching to the choir. Snicker snicker. Tell you Dem friends to move along. Snicker, snicker. There’s nothing to see here. Snicker, snicker. Elect Dean to the DNC. Snicker, snicker. Tell Boxer to call Condi a liar on TV. Snicker, snicker. Please don’t stop.
Serious question: Why do you loathe Hannity who you say have only listened to a few times? Why so much emotion? Disagree with his politics, okay. Dislike his voice or his guests, okay, think he’s sophomoric in his enthusiasms okay. But loathe?
Al Franken comes across as a nasty person and I dislike his politics, but I hardly loathe him or any of the rest of the leftwing nutcases. Now with Michael Moore I come awfully close to abhorrence. I’ve only read his words and seen photos of him. Never saw his films or seen him on TV. It’s visceral thing I have about hypocrisy and poor grooming.
While conservative talk radio probably doesn’t convert too many hard lefties, it certainly has an effect on some moderate/center-left listeners.
Pick any conservative radio talk show and from time to time you’ll hear a caller mention that they’ve changed their views or party affiliation based on tuning in regularly to said host.
I have to admit that loathe was probably too strong a word (although now I see that I said that I
jmaster.
Glad for the clarification. Banging moonbats’ heads together would make you feel better, but it might shake free the spores between their ears by which they reproduce. Best let them destroy each other in their own unique way. Judging by their behavior since the election, we couldn’t do it better.
Remember, go spend lots of dimes today. It’s the patriotic thing to do. I’d love to get a Hummer, but the husband thinks I’m crazy. They get about two miles a gallon. I say, so what? Didn’t we go to Iraq to kill everybody and steal their oil? So? I want mine now.
Speaking of Steve Bozell – Phil Hendrie said last night that his show was dropped from a Detroit outlet that is now Air America.
I have yet to hear an AirAmerica show. I don’t know where they are here. Must be their great advertising and word-of-mouth campaign.
I agree with erp, a Hummer would be very nice to have on a cold, wintry day.
