A week’s “vacation” went long, thanks to some technical issues over here. It looks like Indicted Cable may finally have it fixed.
CORRECTION: Problem not fixed – Adelphia has now left me without an effective internet connection for the best part of a week.
So then. The comments section to this post is dedicated to Real Life Horror Stories about Adelphia Cable. Have one? Click on the comments and vent youself silly.
And I’d like to ask a favor of my sister and fellow bloggers. Please link to this post with the words “Indicted Cable.”
One last thing. The folks at tech support have been nothing but wonderful. Problem is, their bosses won’t tell them what’s really going on. But they’ve tried to help, they really have.

…..there was pickled quail, seafood salad, some cheeses I never heard of (and nothing singly sliced and wrapped), asparagus wrapped with some sort of meat (not bologna)….the look on Steve’s face when Adam said, “We are out of Fat Tire”….Colonel Dick is the best father-in-law (next to Marty, of course)…..a bevy of buxom babes, garbed in black (not one, not two, but THREE of em!)….four dogs, and one very uninterested cat (who is the focus of some feline-centric universe)….just enough precipitation and cold temps to glaze over the roads……Adam driving on them with me in the car behind (hehehehehe).

We’ve had issues with Charter in the past. The last one involved intermittent loss of connection that was fixed by issuing an ipconfig /release and /renew from the router. Charter tried to tell me it was a router problem. Funny how my telling them I was going to set up a routine to issue that command every 15 minutes unless they got that fixed solved all my problems within 3 hours of the call…
Color in NM and all will be forgiven. Jeepers, couldn’t Will give us a head’s up?

Before I moved to the country last year I had Adelphia cable modem service instead of this pokey ol’ dialup, and I loved it! Of course, they tripled the download speed the day before I moved. DOH!
I was actually pretty impressed with their service, only two short outages in about two and a half years. Their customer and technical service people were actually pleasant and helpful… can’t say that about too many tech businesses these days.
I’ve never had Adelphia (no doubt they suck at least as much as Cox or Comcast or Charter), but my folks are stuck with them.
Let’s put it this way: the indictees had better be very, very happy that my dad isn’t in their potential jury pool…
I’ve had DSL for four years now and the uptime is incredible. Aside from a cat incident and a dead UPS at one point, it’s been up the whole time.
While the downloads are slower, it’s symmetric and one is allowed to host servers on it (it’s possible over a cable modem, just not allowed by the service agreement).
I hate to say anything nice about Qwest, but they’ve finally split their DSL off their dial-tone service. I’ve got DSL, but no land-line. Very nice.
My ISP, NileNet is wonderful. I can’t say enough nice stuff about them. I do all sorts of odd techie things with my connection and they’re very helpful. If you pay in yearly increments, you get two months “free”, too.

I’ve had no experience with Adelphia, cable but I’ve heard that it is terrible.
I had Charter cable in Louisiana, and contrary to expectations it worked without a hitch. No hassles. I’m on Bellsouth DSL here in Ga, and it works just fine: no downtime at all, any more. When I first got it, however, they were doing a bunch of upgrades to their system and that caused it to go down for a few hours every week, but nothing like that for the past year. I did have to dig around on the ‘net to find information on the Westell modem they sent, so that it would work correctly with my wireless router. Bellsouth was no help at all, they want to charge extra and install their own “Home Networking Solution”. Bah, I can do that myself, for a whole lot cheaper. And that’s just what I did.

I’ve got Comcast, and they’re not too bad – except when they are.At least they’ve told me; “Yeah, the physical cable network in your area sucks, and there’s not much to be done about that”.

I have an Adelphia “high speed” internet connection and it took from 10 to 12 minutes per page loading time as I was surfing around Al Gore’s World Wide Web last week. Stephen, did you ever find out what Adelphia’s major malfunction was? All I got from customer service was a taped message saying that “Adelphia was aware of the problem in Colorado and there was no need to leave a message.” Nice. In terms of NOT!
I had adelphia before I moved out of my apartment, very fast in the begining, then it gradually slowed down. We’ve (www.springslink.com) been seeing odd connection issues with CO based connections for a while. I originally thought there was a backhoe out there somewhere cleaning the remains of an OC48 out of its teeth, but now I have to wonder if adelphia buggered up their routes and we’re seeing the slop from that.

An Adelphia support person admitted to me they had done an “upgrade” in conncection with upcoming video-on-demand that had boogered up most of the old cable modems, including my own Netgear. Indicted Cable’s management had done a mailing to tell us all about it, but mailed 12,000 pieces to 140,000+ subscribers.
Service has ranged from acceptable to excellent since the new modem (1 week) but my fellow Oracle “work at homes” on Adelphia have had a hell of a time for 2 weeks.
As noted earlier, the individuals at Adelphia are great but the management – feh!
Adelphia works great (Carlsbad, CA) when it’s up. But they do not have any backup equipment at the head end of the cable. So, when a server goes down, they have to wait to get a new server, install it and configure it. This is not the way IT is normally done. Imagine your bank doing things this way (which that cannot do because the Feds wrote the rules about redundancy years ago)?

Adelphia was the worst.
I have had adelphia cable since it was frist available (I was the third person in my city to have it installed, my instller said- I had called that many times), and i really like hteir service. I do hate the fact that I have to call an 800 number rather than a local office, though.
I think we need to file a class action lawsuit against Adelphia Cable for depriving us of our usual Vodka Pundit fix. Because of their incomptetnce I am in physical pain and am feeling emotional distress.

Welcome back. Adelphia’s slimy tentacles have reached into Maryland, too. They have a monopoly on cable operations in the county where we live, though Comcast has been trying to make inroads from neighboring areas.
All of us in the area have experienced long outages, slow speeds, etc. Not to mention all sorts of random weirdness on the TV side of things. It got so bad a few years ago that the county actually threatened to withdraw the monopoly and levy fines against Adelphia unless they improved.
Surprisingly enough, especially considering the indictment, they actually have improved around here. I’ve had better connectivity in the last year than I’ve ever had. For some reason their DNS servers seem to fall over and crash at random intervals, but service is otherwise pretty good.
