Roger Simon knows what to look for at a political convention:
Mine own self, I’m hoping for an open bar.
Amen, brother. A-freakin’-men.

Watching the RNC. Just saw Mercy Vianna Schlapp (who seems to enjoy the sound of her own name and voice – ouch) just interview a veteran named Ray Moosedoody. I kid you not. Are we descending into Bizarro-World? The majority of the entertainment has been Showtunes/Barbershop Quartet made military. More ouch. Hope this is not the recurrent theme of the convention. Watched Heather Wilson– she could give William Shatner lessons in how to overdramatize. Is this what the Republicans have come to? Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Gotta go. McCain’s on. Hope things get better…
What a turnaround at the RNC. John McCain, the three women who lost loved ones on 9/11 (namely Deena Burnett, Deborah Burlingame, and Tara Stackpole), and most especially Rudy Giuliani, were candid, philosophical, and compelling.
This type of direct talk was sorely missing from the DNC. Frankly, John Edwards batting his eyes and coyly squinting at the cameras seems so cheap and unserious now.
Note to RNC – substitute Susan Collins for Heather Wilson next time. Collins marries candor with realism. Wilson comes across as a frumpy, Beulah Ballbricker wannabe.
