Don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely no problem with gay marriage. Why should I care? But I believe the slippery slope is real this time. Again, I don’t really care but if marriage is redefined, then the Mormons will be out demanding equality. I think that’s a good thing. If it’s legal and regulated hopefully we won’t see much marrying 13 year olds as a 5th wife. We will also see what’s left of 60s hippy commune-types having group marriages. Again, I have absolutely no problem with anybody marrying anybody they want. What business is it of mine or the gubmint’s? Absolutely none. But… to quote Helen Lovejoy, “Won’t somebody think of the children?”
The only bad marriage is one where children get hurt. And that’s all too common right now.
In my muddled way, I support all forms of marriage as long as no children are hurt in the making of these marriages.
I read “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” long ago and agree with the thought in there, marriage is meant to be a vehicle for protecting children. As soon as we got away from that marriage was a doomed institution. Blame that on Vegas and Hollywood.
