it is good to an point, Though mid way through when she involes censorship with so called macarthyism she loses me. The facts of what happened during that time do not reflect what is protrayed today. It tells me her and her father are already off track when buying it the Communist/Socialist spin in that regards. It is sad when some standing for such strong princpiles insert a bankruot lie in the middle. It makes them no better that those they are fighting now.
Bill, ok, but consider that most people would see the history that way right or wrong. She was posting thier actions in a way that she hoped would shock them into some realization of what they were doing.
Bill – you beat me to it. It’s about time the truth about the McCarthy era was told. Like her or not, Ann Coulter is right. Many on the left are traitors. I lived through that period and know she’s right. Don’t forget there were very few alternate points of view available in those days. If we had Rush and the internet, McCarthy would be a saint instead of a sinner today. He died in his 40′s a reviled and broken man.
Even supposedly well educated people don’t know that HUAC stands for the House Un-American Activities Committee. McCarthy was a senator and had nothing to do with it. Everything known today from Soviet sources shows that McCarthy and the HUAC were correct.
The vaunted blacklist was a crock. The only people blacklisted were those who spoke up against the communists.
I’m glad this young lady has the courage of her convictions. She should try to learn a little more about the rest of the propaganda she’s being taught too. It’s a disgrace that students on the left have no compunction about harassing those with differing opinions and the administration offers no disciplinary action against them either.
The uncivilized, belligerent behavior exhibited by the anti-war people in the dorm hallway debate is commonly known as fascism. She might mention that in her next discussion with the anti-war peaceniks.

He had no interest in fighting communism, his concern was Joseph McCarthy. What would benefit Joseph McCarthy, what would advance his career. He was a bully, a liar, a grasping fraud. In him there was no honor. He bore no good fruit.
He gave true anti-communists a very bad name. Society’s reaction against his tactics and methods very nearly ended the cold war in the Soviet’s favor. He gave the pro Soviet left such credence we came very close to just giving up and letting the Russian communists have their way. And you insist on calling him a hero?
Joe McCarthy did more damage to the anti-communist cause than anything the Soviet Union could ever do. He made the anti-communist movement a laughing stock and gave it the appearance of a fraud. His baseless accusations gave comfort and support to the pro communist left as good, decent Americans recoiled from his rhetoric is disgust.
erg, I knew Joe McCarthy. Joe McCarthy was an enemy of mine. Joe McCarthy was no anti-communist.
Before anyone personally flames me- I am the author (or authorette, to be PC) of the artical you just read.
And considering the people who I’m verbally writing against are no more than bullies hiding behind that curtain, I feel that the McCarthy thing was justified. McCarthy hid behind the curtain of communism in order to scare, intimidate, and control people for his sole and specific purpose (maybe his mommy didn’t give him a hug, or prozac as a kid) .
As with this girl, at UKY, her sole purpose in this arguement is to win- and that means by any cause in her book, including making people believe that I am a racist and a facist, without letting them read the paper first. McCarthy, if he were alive, kicking, and a college student today, would have done the same thing (I do believe he would be apart of the leftist union on campus too, but besides the point) just to keep control. And thats why it was mentioned.
Note to those who are curious: the paper has been torn down twice thus far. I have three reems of paper, and lots of ink at my disposal.
Allen – You have learned your lessons well. It was the left and the media who labeled McCarthy a villain and drunken lout, not the public. They, like yourself, believed what they read in the newspapers. Few cared to look behind that curtain and find the reality of the charlatans behind it.
The media and the Communists, in government, the entertainment and education biz, “intellectuals,” their apologists and sympathizers were in power and those foolish enough to raise any doubts about the received wisdom of their love affair with the Soviet Union risked the same treatment that killed McCarthy in the prime of his life.
Even the concrete evidence that has been found in the files of the KGB and other Warsaw Pact countries won’t convince people like you. It’s not surprising, I hear there are quite a few people who still favor the flat earth theory too.
As for prolonging the fight against Communism even there you are mistaken. Only Ronald Reagan had the courage to speak up and tell them to take down that wall and expose the farce that the USSR was our equal. A farce sustained by a decades of Democrat control of congress.
It’s all over now. There never were any wizards in the Soviet Union, but in order to promote the myth of Communism, millions of people were killed over the 75 years it existed.
Thank you Mr. Reagan, long may your name be remembered by the free peoples of the world.

PS – To the young lady author of the original article. McCarthy was a very smart man and he was able to understand the Communism was a blight upon the earth. For that he suffered terribly and died a broken and broke man. What you believe about him is false. He wasn’t after power and would certainly never been a part of the left. It takes great courage to stick to your beliefs when all around you believe you wrong. In the end McCarthy was more than justified by actual evidence.
However the tyranny of the left is not totally eliminated yet. It is up to your generation to expunge it from our schools where it has done untold damage to generations of students.
Sorry about repeating the beginning of the previous post. Sometimes I get so angry that we still have apologists for the USSR I lose my temper.

Most of you defend McCarthy by pointing out that there were Communist spies. Yes, there were. But that doesn’t obviate the fact that McCarthy and his tactics were contrary to the principles of this country, and didn’t help his cause.
It is significant that McCarthy was finally stopped by a bi-partisan group of Senators who had had enough of his insinuating and bullying. None of them had Communist connections.
This college student has a better grasp of American history than you do. Keep fighting the good fight, K!

BTW – Do any of you believers know about the documents which corroborated everything McCarthy & the HUAC said?
After all these years there are still people who would rather believe the lies in the media than the truth. After 50 years still paying the price for the almost coup d’etat of the left.
What this college student knows is what her leftist professors are teaching, and it’s far from the truth about McCarthy or the rest of American history.
McCarthy discredited himself and anti-Communism by writing checks with his mouth that his ass couldn’t cash. With one hand grasping for political power and the other gripping his liquor bottle, he became his own worst enemy and in the process made a joke of anti-Communism.
Nothing in the Venona papers or any other intel backs up his claim that the armed forces were rife with commies. That paricularly incindiary charge was the one that led to his downfall when he couldn’t produce any proof whatever. If Ann Coulter thinks otherwise then she is incorrect.
I agree with her use of McCarthyism… more to what it has come to mean and the tactics of those that disagree with her. Their tactics track the senator’s shamefully well.

I haven’t had a history course in about two semsesters, and to be quite blunt erp, most of the history I’ve learned was learned both sides of the fence simply because history is composed of many stories, not just one. That is how it was taught to me at UK.
As far as my other prof’s go… some of them are distinctly conservitive. Depends on who you have. They’re all human.
Yes, McCarthy stuck to his guns, that is honorable, however, he used the tactics of “Your a communist” for the sole purpose to shut people up (yes, there were communists, and a communist threat, but not that great, and frankly accusing the Sec. of War, was a tad extreame).
Just as this girl (as previously said) was using the extreame accusation of: “Your a racist” to shut me up. Therefore the relation is justified. Whether you agree with it or not, thats fine, simply peachy even, I don’t expect EVERYONE to agree with what was said. But “…I will defend you to the death for believing it.” (Volitare)
