I hope Hanson is right.
But I sometimes worry that Arab world is so mired in petty religious division that democracy will be impossible there. With the mosque bombings, it appears that our enemy has given up hope of getting the Americans to leave. They just want to make us the referees in a shithole of religious warfare.
More arrogant American neocon drivel! No one can take that seriously!
Honestly, my biggest concern is the growing number of voices we’re hearing claiming that Iraq is a failure and that we’re in desperate need of radical changes in how we do things.
I suppose it’s an inevitable outgrowth of our (generally very good) political system, but it’s still depressing to watch. The President’s detractors are constantly on the lookout for any sign that things are going badly, so they can push radical changes on the administration’s plans. Whereas what’s needed for the moment is patience and confidence.
