You know, all I can remember about the night of 9/11 and the next day (I was three blocks away from the WTC) is the never-ending footage on CBS, the only non-cable channel that was still on the air in NY. The constant repetition of the planes, the towers falling, the walking ghosts. Over and over and over again. When, fraknly, those of us who were there really didn’t need to see it eight hundred times, thanks.
Now, when we need to be reminded, when the erosions of time, psychological defense, and political obfuscation have all done their synergistic work–nothing.
Fuck The Media. We are the media now. Let’s do the job ourselves.
It’s a day that will live long in infamy. It will not be forgotten any more than WWII.
We don’t commemerate 12/7 now, do we?
I wasn’t there in 1943, but I’m sure they didn’t treat 12/7 like every other day during the war then.
