Just Wait II

This will set the conspiracy theorists’ hearts to poundning:
Police searching for Dr David Kelly, the Ministry of Defence official quizzed this week over the government’s Iraq dossier, have found a man’s body.
Officers have confirmed that the body matches Dr Kelly’s description.
Come to think of it, “Yellowcake” does sound a bit like the name of a lame Bond villian. Maybe from one of the Timothy Dalton movies…

All the more so since the press reports have been conspicuously silent about cause of death. If it turns out to be declared a suicide, the conspiracy theories are going to sprout like mushrooms. (“Vince Foster”, anyone?)
I still think the BBC did it to protect their story.
What are you doing awake at this hour- or has this story kept you up all night. Perhaps it should.
Three shots to the head, or a knife in the back.
Suicide.
Den Beste opened the Vince Foster door – lets walk right on through…
HILLARY KILLED DAVID KELLY!
hey, if there’s going to be a conspiracy party, lets get it started with a bang…
Obviously he was killed because of his role in the “scandal” (sar). But this has the makings of a great conspiracy theory since equally valid theories can be developed for each side.
I guess somebody didn’t like “Ally McBeal.”
Awww, Stephen, I’m disappointed. Timothy Dalton was one of my favorite Bonds. It was nice to see 007 get back to his roots, so-to-speak – a bit more cold, cruel and world weary, the way Ian Fleming wrote him. In the very least, he provided a good transition from the Roger Moore years, enabling Pierce Brosnan to shine.
According to The Telegraph: A police source ruled out natural causes and indicated that he had not hanged himself, taken a drugs overdose or shot himself.
Which seems to eliminate all the ways he could have committed suicide, and suggests that they think it’s murder.
I’m wrong. The new report says he slashed his wrists.
The U.K. has the Official Secrets Act to keep wandering officials on the reservation. It is very broadly drawn, and can be used to silence just about anyone, for anything. It seems to be frequently used for this purpose.
This won’t stop those, such as Democratic Underground, from blithely portraying Britain as some sort of banana republic where opponents of the regime are murdered and left where they might be easily found, so as to send a crude warning to dissidents to shut up.
A pity the DU message board is down right now–I’d love to take a peek and see what those leftist twinks are coming up with to explain this.
To my mind, “Yellowcake” sounds most like a Roger Moore era Bond villain than any other.
I remember being berated on somebody’s comment board that Paul Wellstone really WAS assassinated—because Teddy Kennedy was supposed to be on the same plane, and killing two Dem Senators was just too juicy a target for the Republicans and Dubya.
It really is a scary world for some people out there.
‘Course, the GOPers had their long list of “people killed by the Clintonites”, so it’s hardly limited to one side of the fence….
One of my favorite sayings is, “When in doubt, suspect a conspiracy.” I remember the list of people who supposedly died during the great Clinton cover-up, and it reminded me of an equally long list of people who were silenced shortly after President Kennedy’s assassination. In both instances someone must have had a lot of doubts.
The magical thing about invoking “Vincent Foster” is that once the lunatic fringe link is solidly established, debate is no longer taken seriously, not by people who “count.” Only flyover types (or lunatics) ask otherwise-uncomfortable questions.
No matter what you might secretly suspect, you must NEVER, ever, mention things like Vincent Foster if you want to get invited to the right parties. Hip, sophisticated attitudes are self-enforcing, and far superior to censorship.
Whether there is or is not a conspiracy in any individual case isn’t the point, really. Fashion is a marvelous coverup method, because it divides people into two camps; the conspiracy theorists — kooks all — and those would just never be caught thinking that way.
Believing in cover-ups is SO lower class, really…
