Being a warmonger I suppose I should like this cartoon, but…
Invading Iraq has been on the front burner for four months and — judging by Doonesbury — Trudeau hasn’t formed an opinion on it. Instead of coming out against (or for) an invasion, he decides to tweak congress for the very same noncomittal cowardice.
Coming from any other political cartoonist, this might have been insightful/funny. Coming from Trudeau, rank hypocrisy.
Sen. Carl Levin is an idiot and an ass. More importantly, he is dangerous. Is his mind, an imminent threat occurs when nuclear warheads explode in our cities!!!
Hey, I disagree with his political viewpoint, but I think Doonesbury is a hoot. Have any of you seen his REAL old cartoons? Some examples — BD (the guy with the helmet) goes to Vietnam to avoid a midterm in college, where he gets captured by Phred the Terrorist (a VC who could “raze a hamlet in 30 seconds flat”). They get lost in the jungle and avoid starving by finding a case of beer that the VC “liberated” from the Americans.
Before he got too political he was really funny…sometimes you still see it.
C’mon, you WANT Gary Trudeau to have an opinion on things? Personally, I prefer him skewering everyone to using his bully pulpit to profer his own politics.
Given Trudeau’s history, I read this as attacking congressional Democrats from the left. It merely points out their inconsistency. I think Trudeau actually wants the Dems come out strongly against the war.
Let’s give credit where it’s due. As a feat of draftsmanship, this is a real accomplishment. I don’t believe any other cartoonist has ever even attempted to show the entire Capitol “waffling.” My opinion of Trudeau’s political acumen is, as always, low, but my regard for him as an artist just increased considerably.
Ah, you beat me to it. Compare to Sen. Carl Levin’s incoherent interview from Fox News Sunday linked on my blog.

Trudeau is more comfortable with criticism than offering new ideas or solutions. He’s more like a movie critic than a pundit. A bad movie critic.

Damn, a Doonsbury I can agree with.
It’s kinda like gitting kicked in the crotch. It may be unpleasant, but you can’t ignore it.
Spin,spin,spin.
For once, and most likely only once, Trudeau and I are in ageement.
I imagine that we are both trying not to puke.
What was it I heard… A broken clock is right twice a day.
I’m not shocked that I agree with Doonesbury today. Tomorrow… we’ll wait and see.
r.
Since writers have great respect for copyright law, I’m sure you have Trudeau’s permission to republish his work, right?
Just as soon as I start charging people to read this site, I’ll also start caring.
Meanwhile, I think Gary can afford the free publicity.

Steve,
He was political in the old days too, he was just funnier about it. As he has gotten older, he has gotten lazy and bitter.
Actually, I thought he had just taken some direct quotes from the “Congressional Journal” and drew the dome around them, as you said; lazy
