Can someone please tell me what night during the last week of January and the first week of February there will be no moon in the skies?
That’s the night it looks like the war begins.

I think I saw Feb 2 on Stryker’s page.
Patrick’s right. It’s the Night of Feb 2nd or third (I knew my knowledge of the hebrew calendar would come in handy one day)
Additionally, Jan 3 and 4 will be moonless.
No moon on Sat. Feb. 1, which is also the Chinese New Year. No relevance, but there it is.
New moon (dark sky) which takes place 13 Jan – 1 Feb 2003.
See imagiwae.com/astro/moon.cgi to calculate alternative new moon dates.
I have a brief discussion of moon phases and historical weather patterns over on my blog (sorry, you’ve got to scroll a little):

Please let it be February. We have tickets to go skiing in January.
This war has been hanging on the horizon so long, it’s beginning to interfere with my selfish American life.
“The Groundhog Day War”
Kinda beats “Stunted Nephew of All Battles”
The Groundhog Day War.
That’s the war when every time Bill Murray wakes up a President Bush is at war with Saddam Hussein…
Saddam wakes up and sees his shadow permanently burned into the wall.
Next dark sky after that is March 30th – April 4th. Although I’m not sure to what extent a moonless sky is a major factor anymore. It certainly seems to have affected planning in Gulf War I: Jan 16 1991 was moonless.
Here’s a good moon moon phase calendar.
The groundhog day war: Saddam wakes up and Bush is still president.
