Personally, I have no trouble trusting commercial pilots with my life, or trusting them to do the right thing under difficult circumstances. In fact, it’s hard to imagine any professional class of people I trust more.
I’d be more concerned that one of our hastily-trained air marshals would malfunction in a tight spot before I’d worry that a pilot would.
Has anyone actually added up the number of air marshalls needed to even put one on even two out of three domestic flights? Especially after accounting for sick time, vacation, working in shifts, and et cetera the number comes out to be freakin’ huge. I’m talking, “Most countries don’t have that many men in their entire Army” huge. On the other hand, every plane has a pilot and a copilot…
I tend to agree with the guys on the “Armed” side of the debate: in a hijack situation, an armed pilot is unlikely to do much harm and may do a great deal of good; or in other words, “Armed Pilots or F-16′s”.
Ann Coulter has a good rant on this too at Jewish World Review. Too bad Will wrote his article at the same time or she woulda put him over her knee and spanked the hell outta him. Not that he wouldnt have enjoyed it

Gee! I never thought of that! Imagine if we were to have a former fighter pilot as President.
Sir:
Hi again.
Please check out Dan over at Happy Fun Pundit on this issue. His is the most sensible analysis I have seen so far.
Thanks,
HFitz

Clearly the answer here is ARMING BOWTIES.
George Will get spanked over Anne Coulter’s bended knee is NOT an image I need first thing after waking up.
Now Coulter on bended knee is a different story.
