The Five’s resident liberal Bob Beckel has been officially let go by Fox News after a four-month hiatus, and former Congressman Anthony Weiner has expressed interest in replacing him.
Mediaite reported:
Best-known as the salty liberal panelist on Fox’s hit midday talk show The Five, Beckel has been off-the-air since February 16. His absence was surrounded by mystery for several months until the network confirmed that he had undergone back surgery and, later, that he had also sought rehabilitation therapyfor addiction to prescription pain medication.
Beckel was known for being a bit of a loose cannon, having used the F-bomb on the air and flipping the bird on occasion.

Beckel’s departure does not sound like it was a particularly amicable one.
Via Politico, Fox News executive VP of programming Bill Shine issued the following blunt statement regarding his dismissal:
“We tried to work with Bob for months, but we couldn’t hold The Five hostage to one man’s personal issues. He took tremendous advantage of our generosity, empathy and goodwill and we simply came to the end of the road with him.”
None other than Anthony Weiner (of Weinergate fame), the disgraced former Democrat congressman from New York, has expressed interest in replacing Beckel.

Weiner may be kidding, but one thing is for certain: he’d be a lot more interesting than Beckel’s current replacements, Juan Williams and Julie Roginsky.
