Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.), who’s taking another shot at the White House in 2016, got his shot to answer the Caitlyn Jenner question last night on CNN.

It followed Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) telling the network, “If Caitlyn Jenner wants to be safe and have a prosperous economy, vote for me.”

“I’m into addition. I have not walked in her shoes. I don’t have all the answers to the mysteries of life. I can only imagine the torment that Bruce Jenner went through,” Graham said. “I hope he is — I hope she has found peace. I’m a pro-life, traditional marriage kind of guy, but I’m running to be president of the United States. If Caitlyn Jenner wants to be a Republican, she is welcome in my party.”

Gov. Scott Walker’s (R-Wis.) response Sunday on ABC? “Well, I think it’s a personal decision. And to me, I don’t know that there’s anything more to comment on. It’s just a personal decision.”

Then it was the turn of Santorum, a socially conservative stalwart.

“If Caitlyn Jenner wanted to endorse me, would I accept the endorsement? The answer is if that’s the way she feels about my candidacy, sure. Look, there are all sorts of people in this country of all different positions in life,” Santorum said.

“So you don’t care? A gay man who is married to a man, a transgender, it doesn’t matter to Rick Santorum?” host Erin Burnett asked.

“Here is the thing I always say — never ask anyone why they’re voting for you,” Santorum replied. “Because you probably won’t like the answer. Because people vote for you for all sorts of reasons. And that’s fine. And I — I accept whatever reason anybody wants to vote for me, whoever they are. Of course I accept their vote.”

“You accept their vote. But do you accept them? Do you accept her?” Burnett continued.

“My job as a human being is to treat everybody with dignity, respect, period,” the senator answered. “Stop. Full stop. No qualification to that.”
