Video: Mayor of Baltimore Explains Freddie Gray Riot Destruction: “We Gave Those Who Wished to Destroy, Space...”

Well, here it is only Sunday (as of this writing), and we’ve already got the winner for the dumbest quote of the week courtesy of Mayor of Baltimore Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

During  a press conference Sunday, she explained that she gave instructions for the police to protect the rights of the *protesters* —  including giving “those who wished to destroy”  the space to do that.  This may explain why the protesters were allowed to wreak havoc all over the city Saturday.

Police stood around and did nothing even as things turned violent outside the Orioles/Red Sox game.

As projectiles continued flying everywhere from each part of the crowd—like a war-zone—another black man then charged into the crowd of Red Sox and Orioles fans standing outside Pickles Pub and tore the metal barricades apart throwing them into the now-crowded one-way pass where the assaulted station wagon was a moment ago. My brother, at this point, was screaming at the group of five or so police officers. “Why aren’t you doing anything? They’re hurting people! They’re hurting people! They’re violent!” he yelled at them as they continued ignoring him and not engaging or attempting to stop the violence.

“It was a very delicate balancing act because while we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on — um — we also gave those who wished to destroy, space to do that, as well,” Rawlings-Blake said in all seriousness.

This is why progressives should never, ever be trusted with power.

Whether it’s a big-city mayor giving common street thugs posing as protesters “space” to destroy a city, or the leader of the free world giving radical Islamists “space” to destroy entire countries —  what you get is chaos, terror, bloodshed and tears.
