President Obama made a surprise video appearance at the opening ceremonies of the 2014 Gay Games in Cleveland on Saturday. Joining Greg Louganis, Lance Bass, the Pointer Sisters, and Broadway’s Andrea McArdle and Alex Newell in celebrating the event, Obama said, “Since 1982 the Gay Games have given lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender athletes and supporters around the world a chance to come together to compete, celebrate, and inspire others.”

President Obama, who is vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard, noted how the country has changed since the games began in 1982. “We’ve also seen America change in that time, even since 2006, when the games were last held in the United States in my hometown of Chicago. We’ve come a long way in our commitment to the equal rights of LGBT people here and around the world,” he said.

As international crises continue to dominate the world stage, the president took a break from his vacation and busy golf schedule to record the message for the Gay Games, boasting about his accomplishments on behalf of the LGBT movement since becoming president.  ”I’m proud of my administration’s record and of the citizens who’ve helped push for justice.”

The president had a special message for those living in countries that persecute LGBT individuals, explaining what he believes to be the “very idea” of America. “You should know that the United States stands with you and for your human rights, just as our athletes stand with you on the field at these games,” he said. “After all, the very idea of America is that no matter who you are, what you look like, where you come from, or who you love, you can make it if you try. That’s who we are. That’s who we should continually strive to be. ”

Obama wished the athletes well. “We’re also a country that loves competition, so let’s get these games underway. Good luck to the athletes, have a great time in Cleveland and Akron, and go, Team U.S. A.!”

“The Gay Games is thrilled to have President Obama take his time to show his commitment to the Games’ mission of inclusion, participation and personal best,” said Hollie Ksiezyk, co-chair of the 2014 Gay Games.

Fellow co-chair Steve Sokany agreed. ”It was a special moment that no one in the arena will forget and a great way to kick off the exciting Games week,” he said.

Journalist Connie Schultz, wife of Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, tweeted about how deeply moved she and Sen. Brown were by the opening ceremony:

Approximately 8,000 athletes are expected to participate in 36 events over the next week.

Playing to one of his domestic special interest constituencies. It's really the only thing Obama likes to do pro-actively, because as a beta-male, he doesn't want to do anything where he doesn't have the Democratic Party's special interest groups and the media covering his back.

The only time Obama's been aggressive in challenging Vladamir Putin on anything was on Putin's anti-gay actions, where Obama then named top athletes who've come out as gay to lead the U.S. delegation to the Socci Winter Olympics. Putin invading the Crimea of eastern Ukraine, supplying arms to Iran or meddling in Syria, meh -- that stuff doesn't interest Obama because as president, if he does anything he might get blamed and none of those are issues that translate over into easy political points with Democratic Party core groups at home (in fact some are now irked that we're sending planes to Iraq to bomb ISIS).

Going out of your way on some non-important rhetorical flourish on gay rights is easy political points in Obama's mind, especially since campaign donations and support from gay individuals and groups far outweigh their actual numbers. So cancelling his vacation at the Vineyard due to the multiple crisis situations in the world right now isn't going to happen, but detouring 600 miles to make an appearance at the Gay Games? Obama's all-in on that one.

There is absolutely nothing in the U.S. Constoitution that states equality due to a SEXUAL PREFERENCE and I do not understand how it got through,...but now that they twisted the wording to address it, just get ready for pedophelia, beastiality, polygamy as well as incest. By legalizing homosexuality, you cannot defend a person's argument, that he did not break a law because other sexual deviancies are legal, aka transgender and homosexual relationships. I have no dog in this hunt but you can yell and scream all that you want but homosexuallity has been classified as deviant behavior for thousands of years by most ciivilizations. That is historical fact. I just wanted to point out what is coming as a result of what many felt was a well meaning action. It falls under the law of unintended consequences. Now, I PERSONALLY do not approve of homosexual behavior but as long as it is not done "in my face" it is fine with me. That being said I wlll and never have critizised, discriminated against or even hurt the feelings of anyone who is gay. They have their right to privacy as do I. What they do in their own homes is nobodies business but their own.

Reality Rules

Theologically, the Judeo-Christian Bible in Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 is specific and explicit ... homosexuality is an abomination. The Mohammedans agree. Even many not religiously inclined regard homosexuality as a revolting perversion.

"Gay "? The label was derived from Gay Street in Greenwich Village in ... where else? ... New York City. In the 1950s, it was an area in which homosexuals congregated to find sexual partners. Homosexuals aren’t "gays"; they're homosexuals.

Lost in the noise of what many consider a collapsing, American society and a collapsing, Western civilization is an important signal . . . namely, a single question. Could the opponents of legitimized, open homosexuality be right? Is there not only a theological but a scientific validity to their opposition? As do most other organs in mainstream media, the pro-homosexual lobby neglects to ask this potentially crucial question.

In the span of only a few years, less than 3% of the population, a minority historically considered an abomination to God and to society, have captured the minds of the media and spawned a sociological tsunami. Homosexuality blossomed as normal masculinity withered. How did it happen? What will be the consequences (www.nationonfire.com)? Ultimately, reality rules.

The biggest question about obama is when he will come out of the closet, before or after he leaves the presidency in shame.

"Gay games"? I just don't get it. The homosexuals spend the whole time protesting and propagandizing about how they want to be treated like everyone else, talking about inclusion and acceptance, celebrating athletes "coming out" in mainstream sports, then at the first chance they get they segregate themselves by hosting their own games?

Aren't they the same as everyone else, apart from their sexual proclivities? Can they not compete against straights? or are they just not good enough to take part in reputable games? That can't be it, either, as 7 gay athletes too part in the last Olympic Games (I counted 2859 athletes in all when the official website was up, so that makes gays 0.2448408534452606 %, but these are real athletes we're talking about, who compete with straight athletes).

As I said, I just don't get it, unless they have transexual men competing against women or something, which is hardly fair anyway.

the only reason barry was able to make the games fit into his schedule was because the games were delayed when opening gay parade lasted 3 days.
