Poll: Majority of Americans No Longer Think Barack Obama is Likable Enough

Democrats have nowhere to run with the mid-terms approaching. Dave Brat’s victory in Virginia is a signal that not only will the House stay in GOP hands (as everyone expects), but that it will shift right and the electorate itself may shift right, with the US Senate very much in play. Barack Obama will be no asset for struggling Democrat campaigns. He will be a target for Republicans. A new Bloomberg poll finds him at 44% personal approval.

That’s the lowest of his presidency in a Bloomberg poll.

Obama has long been under water on issues. His stances on the economy and jobs, foreign policy, healthcare, and his overall job performance have been below 50% for a long time. But he could rely on his personal popularity, which stayed above 50%, to bail him out.

Now he doesn’t even have that. Americans are comfortable telling pollsters that they just don’t like the guy anymore.

The poll was taken after Obama approved the Bergdahl swap for five Taliban commanders, and it finds that 51% of Americans disapprove of that deal. The majority also disapprove of his handling of healthcare (58%), 57% disapprove of his handling of the economy, and 63% disapprove of his handling of the deficit. 55% think he hasn’t dealt fairly with the Republicans in Congress.
