After meeting with several Obamacare Navigators who openly encouraged our undercover reporters to lie about income status, health history and more, it became clear that personal data was also being “cross-pollinated.”
Enter Enroll America, a Sebelius-linked group dedicated to signing people up for Obamacare and Chris Tarango, Texas Enroll America Communications Director who Project Veritas caught on tape agreeing to help obtain a private list of potential Obamacare enrollee data for election/political purposes. Tarango goes so far to say he’ll “Do whatever it f****** takes.”
Veritas targets Enroll America Texas, which is an Obamacare navigator group that must be nonpartisan according to its legal status with the IRS. Navigators are part of the Affordable Care Act law, established and paid to help Americans “navigate” toward purchasing healthcare through the Obamacare exchanges. But in the video, it’s clear that Enroll America Texas is working hand in glove with Battleground Texas, which is Organizing for Action’s state-level political campaign, set up to help Democrats like Wendy Davis win office in Texas. Battleground Texas is clearly partisan, and does not deny that it is.
Enroll America, though, is supposed to be nonpartisan and entirely non-political by its legal status as a 501(c)(3). According to their communications team leader in the video, Chris Tarango, Enroll America Texas is made up entirely of campaign staff from President Obama’s 2012 campaign. Tarango also lets on that Enroll America works directly with Battleground Texas. Project Veritas captures Tarango on tape conspiring to violate the law concerning how Enroll America Texas handles personal information it gathers up in the course of its “navigator” operations. Tarango allows that the plan is clearly illegal, yet rather than just shutting the conversation down, he goes along, suggesting that he knows someone within the organization who may provide the data that Project Veritas’ under cover reporter seeks.
The Obamacare navigator network must be investigated by Congress. David Steinberg has written a handful of investigative pieces here at PJM, which together with the Project Veritas video show that the navigators are for all intents and purposes yet another Obama political campaign, masquerading as non-profits. Or, they are a means by which the federal government is using taxpayer dollars to prop up and fund leftwing political groups and keep Obama’s political supporters and allies flush with cash between elections. These are not small amounts of money in play with the navigators. Enroll America’s own website shows that HHS plans to provide more than $8 million to navigators in Texas alone.
