How Obama Danced Away From 'If you like your healthcare, you can keep your healthcare'

The most anticipated moment of President Obama’s latest speech on healthcare came and went in Boston, with the president defending the oft-used and debunked line that under Obamacare, “If you like your healthcare, you can keep your healthcare.”

The rollout of Obamacare, and the news that millions of Americans have not been allowed to keep their healthcare, have rendered that line inoperable.

When Obama came to that section of his speech when the line usually falls, he went with a new spin. If you’ve lost your healthcare thanks to his law, he wants you to know that you were just “under-insured.” Because he says so.

“One of the things health reform was designed to do was to help not only the uninsured but also the under-insured,” he said.

“If you had one of these substandard plans before the Affordable Care Act became law, and our really liked that plan, you are able to keep it. That’s what I said when I was running for office.”

“But ever since the law was passed, if insurers decided to cancel or downgrade these substandard plans, what we said, under the law, is you have got to replace them with quality, comprehensive coverage,” he said, “because, that, too, was a central premise of the Affordable Care Act from the very beginning.”

“So, if you’re getting one of these letters, just shop around on the new marketplace,” Obama commanded. “That’s what it’s for.”

Shortening Obama’s statement, then, he knew that Obamacare would cost some Americans their healthcare by design, but until forced to acknowledge that, he lied about it. Now he orders those Americans to shop around for more expensive healthcare that meets his arbitrary standards on a website that Does. Not. Work.

Or, one supposes, you can call 1-800-F***Yo. Which is not only obscene, it relies on the same website that Does. Not. Work.

Given President Obama’s clear declarations that Obamacare would not cost anyone their healthcare if they liked it, one example of someone losing such coverage disproves him.

Here’s one: A doctor whose healthcare plan helped him beat cancer twice. Then Obamacare came along, and took his healthcare plan away.
