During today’s White House press briefing, Fox News’ Ed Henry asked spokesman Jay Carney an obvious question: Are you going to investigate how your government misspent millions of dollars to build a web site that doesn’t even work?

Henry didn’t put it quite that way, he put it this way: “They’ve gotten millions of dollars in federal contracts for the web site, the data collection, et cetera. And when even Robert Gibbs is saying it’s been botched, is there an investigation of this company? Is this company planning to turnover? This is millions of dollars in hard-earned taxpayer dollars. Is the government gonna get some of that money back?”

Carney did his bureaucratic best to deflect the question: “Questions about contracts related to this are ones that should be addressed to HHS and CMS. I don’t have that information.”

Everyone at HHS ultimately works for President Obama. Is he not interested and asking questions about how HHS botched the rollout of his own signature policy?

Apparently not.

More: The White House also isn’t interested in investigating how the botched web site ended up costing triple the original sticker price.

A Reuters review of government documents shows that the contract to build the federal online insurance website – key to President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare reform – tripled in potential total value to nearly $292 million as new money was assigned to the work beginning in April this year.

Just tried to register 3 times. The first time my submissions circled the drain for a few minutes before giving a message that the account creation failed. After than, I got the following message:
"Important: Your account couldn't be created at this time. Call the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596."

This is just for creating a basic account, no personal information at all. That's something most basic websites with any user account creation (including this one) do routinely. You can get freeware to do that. And we spend >$600M?

The whole mess could have been avoided by employing a Business Architecture team to translate the legislation into the website screens, processes, technologies, etc. needed by the users. A tremendous amount of money and time could have been saved.

It's a website and will be fixed.. have a little 'foresight'.

There are people right now who will walk you through everything you need to know and do via the phone.. If that is still feeling daunting, you can request good ol paper and pencil forms and applications.

Oh my, the website with tremendous traffic is glitchy it's first runs.. 'oh well'.. not great news, but hardly anything to get freaked about. Welcome to 2013.

During that press conference, not a single member of the Palace Guard asked any questions anywhere near this subject.
They were all content to try to dance on the Republican Party's grave.

if a contractor had screwed up the greens where he plays golf there would be heck to pay. they would be facing the i.r.s., n.s.a, d.e.a, and so forth. at least he hasn't started using drones on amerikans on u.f. soil, yet. a dictator's gotta have his priorities ya know.

if things flow as usual, the contracting officer, inspectors and everybody responsible for oversight will get promoted. hundreds dead along the border (fast & furious) and everybody involved got transferred to a cushy job close to herr lil dicktater.

tell me there are people in this country who still believe barry cares about what happens to them. I need a good laugh.

A friend of mine with deep family roots in academia dubbed the Clinton administration as "government by graduate seminar" for their habit of mistaking discussions abut a problem with actual solutions to a problem. The Obama administration is even further detached from reality. It is all talk and opaque payoffs to favored friends and no accountability for results.
