The woman at the center of the car chase and police shooting that locked down Capitol Hill for a short time on Thursday reportedly had post-partum depression.

Miriam Carey, 34, a dental hygienist from Stamford, Conn., was stopped at a White House barricade before leading police on a chase in her black Infiniti. Gunshots were fired by law enforcement on the car at two separate locations, the second resulting in Carey’s death. An 18-month-old girl was pulled from the car unharmed.

From ABC News:

Authorities described Carey has having a “mental illness.”

“She had post-partum depression after having the baby” last August, said the woman’s mother, Idella Carey.

She added, “A few months later, she got sick. She was depressed. … She was hospitalized.”

…Idella Carey said her daughter had “no history of violence” and she did not know why she was in Washington, D.C. She said she believed Carey was taking the little girl to a doctor’s appointment today in Connecticut.

Dr. Steven Oken, her boss of eight years, described Carey as a “non-political person” who was “always happy.”

And more from NBC News:

The woman who led authorities on a chase from the White House to the Capitol before she was killed by police may have thought that President Barack Obama was stalking her, law enforcement sources told NBC News.

The sources said that the woman, Miriam Carey, had a history of mental health problems.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) told CNN he was walking near the Capitol when he saw on Constitution Avenue “a bunch of police cars racing down the street, sirens blaring, and then I stopped to look at that. Then I heard the gunshots, four or five shots, ring out from that area over there.”

“There’s a lot of tension in the air right now, a lot of unhinged folks out there. So you don’t know what’s going on. You don’t know if that’s a decoy, if something else is going on. But the police officers reacted I think very effectively. They said get down, get down, Senator Wicker and I kind of ducked behind one of the SUVs over there, and we were escorted back into the Capitol,” Sanders said.

Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) said last night that there are still many questions to be answered, but “first and foremost, it is a terrible tragedy.”

“Two officers injured and you have a death as well by the suspect — or the death of the suspect. So it is a terrible tragedy. The way the Capitol Police responded was comprehensive, very effective and I think it was in keeping with securing not only members of Congress but anyone who is near or on Capitol grounds,” Casey said.”

“So I think the Capitol Police did a great job on a difficult circumstance and this is in the aftermath of the shooting at the naval yard. So they wanted to make sure everyone was safe, a lot of details yet to be learned though.”

Obama WAS stalking her . . . just as he is stalking every other American (NSA, IRS, TSA, EPA, FBI, CIA, ATF) so he can shake him/her down for higher taxes, bigger government and more regulation & control. Ms. Carey wasn't imagining anything.

I'll bet this story vanishes down the MSM memory hole by tomorrow, because WH cops gunning down a confused out of state motorist/black single Mom with baby who made a wrong turn then panicked trying to escape shots being fired into her car does not Serve The Obama Narrative. The 'mental health' angle will be used to Alinsky-smear the murdered woman. No investigation is likely to uncover any real facts.
This story smelled fishy from the first, incorrect reports. Gradually we learn she was unarmed, that she had her baby with her, now a SWAT search of her apartment finds nothing unusual and no links to terrorism, politics, or the Tea Party ( unless a history of going to work and paying her bills on time marks her as a possible conservative).
As details trickle out (not that the MSM is asking any real questions) it looks more and more like a hysterical cop-pack overreaction that turned into a broad-daylight mass execution (at least nine shots fired into her as she sat behind the wheel according to witnesses). Adrenaline plus guns plus martial-law mentality resulted in a wrong turn becoming a public execution.
I live in DC. The barricades put up after 9/11 combined with dense traffic and a confusing lack of signage are an all-day, everyday problem resulting in confused and disoriented tourists at those busy intersections driving up to the barricades ( which may or may not be visibly manned at any given time of day) in bewilderment. I have watched car after car pull up to ask directions from the WH cops and to ask if there is any other approach where they can see the WH view they are expecting from TV and decades of Doonesbury. On this particular occasion it looks like one or two cops pulled their Glocks and started blasting. We now know that she backed into a WH cop who was pounding on her trunk, not 'ran him over' as first reported.
Ask yourself what you would have done, taking a wrong turn, being surrounded suddenly by police who witnesses say surrounded her, shouting, slamming and pounding on her car with drawn guns. When one officer began firing into her car, she panicked and sped away. Ironically she may have thought she had driven into another Navy Yards shooting spree in progress, rather than herself being the cause. It's apparent from eyewitnesses and videos that once they had her car surrounded and trapped at the Capitol she was going no further and the 'car as weapon' threat was neutralized. There was no need to shoot her to death.
The take away is that our government wants a society where citizens are like POWs in a Nazi camp. Walk too close to the barbed wire fence, for any reason, and the guards shoot to kill.

You may have described what really happened, (and you're spot on about this vanishing down the MSM memory hole) but it doesn't explain what Ms. Carey was doing there, & more particularly, what she was doing there with her child. Her mother says she thought Carey was taking the daughter to the doctor in CT. I was recently in D.C. myself and the WH & Capitol cops do seem to have a martial-law, SWAT-Team mentality - perhaps it's post-9/11, post-Boston, post-Newtown jitters - but the 'protect & serve' attitude isn't there for sure.

This does NOT RING TRUE to me! We have gone from an inadvertent comment by the woman's mother about her daughter's perhaps being a bit depressed to full fledged 'crazy' in one day!

And now she has a "history of mental health problems" Unnamed sources who conveniently come forward to move the blame for the debacle from the government over to the DEAD woman and her family!

Name the sources, and tell us what this 'history of mental illness' was? I predict we will never know who put this poor attempt of an alibi out there! I know it certainly was not the woman's family.

Anyone else getting annoyed that we're not be clear that the "shots fired" were by law enforcement and 1 of the 2 officers injured - caused his own injuries.

So the capitol cops make sure we all understand their tolerance level for any hinckey business around the Mall is very low. Sounds like more thug governance to me. They just shoot 'em since they know the ruling class has their backs.

Yes.

Reportedly, Miriam Carey imagined Obama was stalking her. If so then "I Am Miriam" t-shirts should sell like hot cakes.
