Syria is supposed to provide a full accounting of its chemical weapon stockpiles by Saturday. Secretary of State John Kerry was unequivocal on that timing.

“We agreed that Syria must submit within a week — not in 30 days, but in one week — a comprehensive listing,” Kerry said Saturday. He said the U.S. would allow “no games, no room for avoidance, or anything less than full compliance.”

But as the deadline nears and Syria appears not to be getting its list together, the US State Department is already carving out room for games and avoidance.

Marie Harf, a State Department spokeswoman, said Wednesday that “our goal is to see forward momentum” by Saturday, not the full list. “We’ve never said it was a hard and fast deadline.”

What part of “must submit within one week” does Ms. Harf not understand? She understands every word, of course.

This is how the deal regarding Syria’s WMDs will go. Russia will play the Lucy and the football act, with the US in the role of Charlie Brown. Syria will say one thing and do another, or not do anything at all if it suits them. At each turn as the US gets played, Obama’s hires will move the goalposts and argue that, really, things are peachy and on schedule. That football we just failed to kick is sailing right through the uprights.

Big surprise here!

Everyone who knew anything about history (which, of course, excludes Obama and Kerry) predicted something like this. Just another screw up in a long line of screw ups from the Obama regime.

Oh don't worry your pretty little head about it, citizen!

Obama doesn't give two hoots as to the details. He was just desperate for an excuse, any excuse to back away from the table. As soon as he realized that even the Dem-controlled Senate was not going to endorse operation Save Obama's Face he realized he had painted himself into a serious corner. He grasped at Putin's lifeline like a drowning man.

Obama is supremely confident that he just needs a few months or even weeks for things to die down and for us peons to forget all about it. After all, we don't really seem to care that--sarin aside--Basher is killing those poor, dear Syrian children with his artillery, aircraft and tanks with even greater gusto than before.

Like most Obama apologists, you deliberately miss the point.

It's a civil war, doesn't matter whose killing who, or with what weapons, it's stupid to try and stop it, it's akin to stepping in between two pit bulls to break up a fight.

But if a stupid President has to stick his nose in where it doesn't belong, it's better for everyone if he has a workable plan. Of course, for Obama, that would be a first.
