The liberal Fox and Daily Beast pundit Kirsten Powers has finally gone full Obama apologist. In a screed against Republicans who are trying to defund Obamacare — against an explicit threat from President Obama to shut the whole government down in order to preserve his unpopular signature law — Powers tosses up howlers.

Try this one. Keep in mind, it’s directed at Republicans:

Having principles is fine. Imposing them on everyone else through destructive maneuvering that keeps the country constantly on edge is not.

Two words: “I won.” That was how Barack Obama approached “negotiations” with the Republicans in Congress at the beginning of his first term.

Powers’ two sentences above describe the Obama administration’s MO from the beginning. To take but one example, Obamacare did not have majority support when it passed. It does not have that support now. When the Tea Party rose up to oppose it, what happened?

Democrats smeared them as racist.

As we have drawn closer to Obamacare’s full implementation, corporations, Big Labor, even Congress have sought exemptions from it. Yet it is being imposed on the nation against our will, to further Democrat collectivist principles. Obamacare is hurting the weak recovery and costing many Americans their jobs, in order to further Democrat objectives.

Powers surely knows that the threat to shut down the government now is not coming from Ted Cruz or Mike Lee. Both have sought to get Obamacare defunded before it goes into full effect October 1. President Obama has responded to that with his threat to shut down the government. He has also said that he will not negotiate with Republicans over the national debt ceiling — the same man who is entrusting the Syria WMD issue to Vlad Putin won’t talk to Republicans. The same man who as senator said that raising the debt ceiling was a “sign of failed leadership” and who opposed raising the ceiling when he was in the Senate now says that he will not negotiate over it at all. He goes farther than that, calling people who held the same position that he held as a senator “reckless.”

How can any adult hold a reasonable conversation with such a man?

Powers never mentions any of these facts, though she is surely aware of them.

She gets one point correct in her piece, in a quote from one of the two people she interviewed for it: “You have to accept the legitimacy of the other side.”

Barack Obama has consistently treated his opponents and critics to games of name-calling and rank dishonesty. He earns four Pinocchios for his latest debt ceiling game. He does not accept any criticism or opposition as legitimate. Neither, apparently, do his apologists like Powers.

What are Republicans supposed to do? He won, but so did they. That’s how they got to Washington.

Powers is actually a fairly honest Democrat. And she is not a Liberal. She is a Conservative Democrat. She is Prolife, as one example. She has often criticized Obama on foreign policy, especially Egypt. She is not stupid, either.

All that said, she is human, and it is common for people to not see their own hypocrisy. Was she incorrect in the general statements she made? No. One should respect the other side. She just doesn't see that she is not doing so, because she is focused on what she perceives to be the slight to her side. Myopia. Imposing their views on the other side? Well, yes, but these are the views of the majority of the country, at least 55% and growing. Of course, ObamaCare is the result of a minority imposing its views on the rest.

Powers believes in universal healthcare. She wants it to become fact. She believes it when she is told that the majority of people support it, despite the evidence to the contrary. She just wants it so badly, that she just cannot think straight on it. Too biased in this. Makes her human. Just remember, that most times she can offer good insights, when she is not so terribly biased.

Obama will shut down the government in order to use it to political advantage against the GOP in the midterm elections. It's not about principles, unless you mean Alinsky-ite "Rules for Radicals". Obama only knows how to play bare-knuckle Chicago-style politics. He will never compromise, but only because compromise loses him points with his base.

Bless her heart, dammit; she's just too pretty to be that damn dumb and ditzy. When I was growing up and my sister would say or do something silly or dumb, my mother would pat her on the head and say, "Baby, you're so pretty." KP reminds me of the same scenario....'She's so pretty.'

Remember BENGHAZI!

Kirsten Powers: One more good reason to turn Fox News off. I don't waste my precious time left on Earth having my intelligence insulted for the sake of the phony "fair and balanced" format.

I could not agree more I have not watched Fox for close to a year now, the constant presence of Rove and his merry band of establishment RINOs, air heads like Perino, Powers, Liz Cheny Tamara Holder, Hannity's bullying, O'Riely's BULL* and Chris Wallace's "gotcha" interview style turned me off long before 2012 elections. I believe there is a vacumn waiting to be filled.

Democrats are like alcoholics: "Just one more drink, then I promise I will quit" = "just one more year with no budget - I promise we'll balance it next year".
Right
The only way alcoholics recover (if they ever recover) is to hit rock bottom. Lose virtually everything before they can begin to rebuild their lives.
Obama says "I'll shut the govt down..." Go ahead. Do it. Let's call his bluff. It's the libs and gimme more freebies crowd that will get the worst of it...
Like all addicts (their drug is free money/something for nothing) the pain has be acute and unbearable before any hope for recovery can begin.

"He has also said that he will not negotiate with Republicans over the national debt ceiling"

That's because he doesn't know how to negotiate. Community organizers don't negotiate with anyone. They protest, criticize, belittle, mock and intimidate, but the don't negotiate. They don't know how. If they win they win everything they wanted (and sometimes more) and if they lose, they lose it all and move on to the next crises/issue. But they don't negotiate. He can send Kerry or Hillary or one of his other cronies to negotiate with Putin or Netenyahu or Assad or any other two bit dictator, but he never negotiates himself outside of "I won". That's all he knows. And, since he can't send his cronies to negotiate with Congress and then claim to have negotiated himself, he just refuses to. Until Bohener and McConnell figure this out, he'll keep beating them up in true community organizer fashion.

Saw this article too. Were one to erase all the falsities and insults there wouldn't be much left. Note to mssrs. Ornstein and Mann; to claim "you have to accept the legitimacy of the other side" and then call the other side insane, suicidal, fringiest, and hellbent on bloodshed is hard to swallow. The height of hyperbole is in direction proportion to the weakness of your argument, which, dissapointingly so in this case because I really try to give Powers the benefit of the doubt, is just another predictable, tedious Republicans-are-poopyheads retread. Determining that the success of Obamacare is worse than a temporary government shutdown is a perfectly reasonable and legitimate stance. If you can't refute that without personal attacks STFU.
