‘Paula Deen SHOOTS Trayvon Martin’ in new SVU that wraps both scandals into one controversial episode… and Cybill Shepard plays gun-wielding TV chef.” the headline at the London Daily Mail breathlessly reports, in a story that’s largely cribbed from this Entertainment Weekly article:

In fact, the SVU writers have taken things one step further and combined two of the year’s biggest headlines: The trial of Zimmerman over the killing of Florida teen Trayvon Martin and the Paula Deen scandal.

“[Jeffrey] Tambor is a defense attorney representing a very high-profile celebrity woman chef who thought she was being pursued by a rapist and turned around it was a teenager. And she shot him,” said Leight in an interview with EW. “There’s a lot of stop and frisk elements to that as well.

Cybill Shephard is playing the part of the celebrity chef, and Smash’s Leslie Odom, Jr. is portraying a minister of the slain child in what will be the third episode of the season.

They won’t be shying away from the big questions either, according to Leight. “Is racial profiling justifiable? Can self-defense involve racial profiling? We’re diving right into that,” he said. “Can that happen in New York? Absolutely.”

Can a show chockablock with leftist Democrats smear their fellow Obama supporters? Can a show look back and see the shark it’s jumped is receding even further in the distance? Can once semi-respected crime drama become camp? Is it time to retire this show? Absolutely.

If I’m remembering correctly, the original Law & Order had a heavy-handed anti-Tea Party allegory in its last season before euthanasia was mercifully applied to that once-great, long-exhausted series. Perhaps this upcoming segment is, if we’re lucky, a similar clue that the end is near for its spin-off.

Incidentally, I wonder what the man who is suing NBC’s news division for slandering him thinks about this development.

Matthew Sheffield of Newsbusters has further thoughts on this segment ripped from the headlines Dick Wolf’s fever swamp imagination.

Stopped watching the show and all its franchises years ago, just because of this sort of drivel.

I wouldn't be that concerned about what sort of drivel the peacock network tries to display. This is a network that is getting routinely beaten in the ratings by Univision, Honey Boo Boo, and Duck Dynasty. Will the last buggy-whip network please turn out the lights.
It's sort of like worrying about what sort of new stories are being reported in the Washington Post; their circulation has dropped so far that if it wasn't for bird cages, there'd be not need to print a single paper.

Can't wait for the episode where the SVU team investigates the local democrat councilman; let's call him "Milner" who gas been groping women in his employ for years. The twist is he was framed by an evil cabal of republican businessman and some extreme right wing radio talk show host.
My gift to you law and order writers. Make it an episode.

....oh,... but make it interesting, by him being Republican in his earlier life until he saw the light and went Progressive.
He started having conservative thoughts, and then,... it all went downhill.
The endgame is what we'd see, in your scenario.
"...if he'd only stayed true to Progressivism, he'd still be a great & upstanding leader......"
He then spontaneously combusts, and no one can find an extinguisher.....
Scene fades...........

"Is it time to retire this show?"

It's been time to retire this show - and its spiritual predecessor and all spiritual successors - years ago.

I have a treatment written for a new sitcom.

It starts with a flashback to a bridge with the railings blown out and a car sinking, in tepia shades...a trapped young girl inside.

Fade the same make and model car...only a newer year model a couple of decades newer and their is panting in the back seat and all you see is the back of a grey haired man and a stained blue dress.

Fade the same make and model to a New York city brownstone and in a bedroom with the sheets all disheveled a man wrapped in just a towel watching himself on TV rage against prostitution ...as someone knocks at the door and says "Time!".

Fade to Boston, same make and model and a two story dwelling, pan down to the basement where a gay prostitution ring is holding an orgy...and on TV the talking hair spray head is babbling on about the collapse of Fannie Mae and the destruction of the American economy.

Fade to last year's make and model and a guy taking pictures of his "package" and sending it to teenage girls...all atwitter.

Fade to today's make and model...with a poodle humping the stick shift of a Prius.

It will be called Sham Wow...or the Sham War on Women. It won't be ripped from headlines, because...well, frankly...the agenda media needs to bury all these stories.

Our first episode begins this week in San Diego....
