[VIDEO] Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst Launches Re-Election Campaign

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst (R) is announcing his bid to retain his office today. Dewhurst’s campaign rolled out this movie trailer-style video as part of the kick-off. The video touts Texas small government ethos, its gaudy business record, and Dewhurst’s longstanding role in helping lead Texas for more than a decade.

In a press release accompanying the video, Dewhurst highlights his business experience:

“Texas has no equal in our nation when it comes to economic strength and I’m running to make it even stronger. As the only traditional business person elected statewide, I’ve been in leadership during one of the most amazing expansions of our economy in history, and I think we can go bigger and better, faster,” said Dewhurst. “Texas is number one and my mix of business experience, seasoned leadership and conservative values will help keep us there. Together, we can create opportunity as big as Texas for years to come.”

Dewhurst is running for a fourth term as lieutenant governor, which, constitutionally, is the most powerful office in Texas. His GOP primary opponents include current Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and state Sen. Dan Patrick.

Dewhurst is coming off a full legislative session plus three special sessions. As lieutenant governor, he presides over the Texas Senate.
