Once again, Sacramento proves that to go really over-the-top, you’ve got to go to Democrat California:

The California Senate this week approved a collection of bills, including one (SB 53) that would require background checks, permits, and fees for the purchase of ammunition.

All ammunition sales would have to be face-to-face, happening only in the presence of a store clerk; and vendors selling the bullets would have to submit sales records to the California Department of Justice. Those vendors also would need a permit to sell ammunition.

Kira Davis notes that SB 53 also “requires background checks and a $50 ammo purchase fee.”

It wasn’t that long ago that I saw Dick Durbin on one of the Sunday shows, with the stuff-eating grin on his face, joked about taxing bullets until they cost a hundred or a thousand dollars apiece. Which I could find that video, but no one seems to have grabbed it.

So if you think something like this can happen only in California — think again.

Goody, goody! California just created another underground enterprise in their state -- selling black market ammunition.

They are, in a very true sense of the word, un-American. I make no bones about saying it.

"shall not be infringed"

The "Democratic" Party is actively hostile to the ideas of the founding of the US.

So, was this bill about bullets? Or ammunition?

OR is this just more media ignorance?

Were I an enterprising businessman (or woman) in Az. Nev. OR. I'd be opening a store 37 feet over the border, stocking up on ammo....and raising my prices.

This is the equivalent of saying that we will not infringe on your First Amendment rights... but that ink, cable modems, and bullhorns will now be heavily taxed, so that we don't have The Wrong People using free speech.

I have a better idea. California could pass a law saying that it's okay to buy bullets... but that, if you use those bullets to kill somebody, you have to go back to the store and pay for the ammo a second time.

Unenforceable? Yep. Criminals don't pay attention to other gun-control laws either. "It is illegal in California to buy a rifle with both a barrel shroud and a bayonet lug, neither of which make any difference to crime... unless you kiss the governor on the nose and say 'pretty please', in which case it's okay."

Yup, you have the right to exorcise your civil rights, to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, provided you can afford it.

Next year I can leave the cesspool of Kalifornia. In the meantime I'll keep buying my ammo in Nevada.

This is creating opportunities for entrepreneurs. Drive over to Arizona, Nevada, or Oregon, load up your truck with ammo, and re-sell it in California, no questions asked. It's known as a "black market", and it will be how the gang members get their ammo.
