The agency that will not let you blow off your tax deadline has blown off a deadline of its own, according to Breitbart.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) declined Friday afternoon to meet a Senate Finance Committee deadline for answering detailed questions about the origins of the IRS scandal. The questions had been submitted jointly nearly two weeks ago by Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and Ranking Member Orrin Hatch (R-UT).
In a joint statement to Breitbart News, Baucus and Hatch said:“It’s disappointing that the IRS failed to produce any of the documents requested by the Committee.
“This is an agency that revolves around making the American taxpayer meet hard deadlines each and every year when they file their taxes, oftentimes penalizing those that are late.
“The IRS needs to do much better.”
Specifically, the senators asked the IRS to explain how it came to target conservatives, who was aware of it, and what actions were taken to stop it. The IRS has declined to answer, at all. Today close of business was the deadline.
It’s time for more subpoenas and more hearings. Eventually it will be time for a special prosecutor, but keeping the hearings in Congress has a better chance of keeping the outrage bipartisan and on the front-burner.
Meanwhile, the suspicion that the IRS targeting was part of a broader scheme to attack conservatives is gaining mainstream traction.
