Ok, most of us here can agree that gun control is silly — or at least that gun control is actually the ability to hit what one aims at. But I’m listening to the local talk radio station the other day, and this typical liberal nitwit says, and I quote, “I’ve never fired a gun in my life, and if I had three wishes one would be that all guns disappear.”

Let’s say for the sake of argument that we go in for total confiscation tomorrow. And further for the sake of argument this doesn’t set off a civil war. It’s barely in the realm of possibility you could get rid of them all. Guess what you can’t confiscate, Skippy.

Knowledge.

The ability and knowledge to make firearms. So let’s just get the idea that guns are ever going away out of our heads shall we?

Besides, you can make an AK 47 out of a shovel.

In the First World War, the favored weapons of the elite German Stosstruppen were entrenching tools (the small shovels carried by infantry) with sharpened edges and bagfuls of stick grenades. A Stosstrupp could swiftly and quietly decapitate an enemy sentry with his sharpened entrenching tool. If firearms are banned, you'll see a burgeoning firearm black market (is that racist?), both commercially manufactured and homemade. You'll probably see a lot more deadly (both to the user and the intended victims) homemade firearms, like revolvers, semi-autos, and automatic weapons firing really nasty loads that can cripple and maim as well as kill.

Another kid smacked me on the head with a shovel when I was a toddler. I still remember that, well over five decades on. My parents saved the shovel to use in removing fallout left in their yard by the neighbors' dogs.

Postmodernist professors have called for the banning of picks and hoes, due to the terrible toll exacted by semiotic mattock weapons.

I am reminded of the US Congressman (though I can't remember his name) who remarked upon the occasion of our landing in Grenada in 1983 to rescue the American students, only to be attacked by the militarized Cuban 'agricultural workers': "It's amazing how quickly they beat their shovels into AK-47s."
