Dr. Ben Carson, director of pediatric neurosurgey at John Hopkins Hospital, famously criticized President Obama’s healthcare and taxation policies with the commander in chief seated just feet away at last month’s prayer breakfast.
Today as a highly touted speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Carson hinted at the possibility of jumping in the political ring.
The 62-year-old brain surgeon said he will be retiring from the operating room later this year, quipping that pilots should know when to retire before they crash a plane.
“And there are so many more things that can be done,” Carson said. Asked if that mean running for office, he said he’s “very dedicated to education of the next generation… once we get that taken care of, who knows?”
Carson gave a speech that ranged from the corporate to the religious. “Corporations are not in business to be social welfare organizations; they are there to make money,” he said, adding that compassion and charity can still come from the private sector.
“We have to resist this war on God,” Carson continued. “And this is supposed to be a country where we have freedom of religion and freedom of speech?”
“And that means PC police, don’t you be coming out against the people who believe in God and who believe in Jesus.”
Carson also panned divisiveness that he said is stoked by the media.
“We need to understand that we are not each other’s enemies in this country,” he said. “…We have much more in common with each other than we have apart.”
