Backfire: Obama, Napolitano Blame Illegal Alien Releases on ICE (Update: DHS Official Resigns)

Yesterday news broke that the Obama government is releasing as many as 30,000 incarcerated illegal aliens, citing the sequester spending cuts. Today, the Obama government appears to be divided over the move, with the White House and Homeland Security chief Janet “the border has never been safer!” Napolitano blaming the decision on faceless bureaucrats.

The White House and the Department of Homeland Security were unaware of Immigration Customs and Enforcement’s decision to release detainees until the agency announced it, administration officials said Wednesday.

“This was a decision made by a career officials at ICE without any input from the White House, as a result of fiscal uncertainty over the continuing resolution, as well as possible sequestration,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said Wednesday.

Sure it was. Let’s see names, and let’s see some firings.

While we await those in futility, it’s worth asking some questions. Who made the decision not to deploy the USS Harry Truman to the Persian Gulf, for the exact same phony reason that ICE allegedly is releasing criminals from jail? Who has let departments run so amok that they hold $5 million parties and engage in “zombie apocalypse” training? Who hasn’t even bothered to have a budget for 1,400 days now? Who is predicting Armageddon if government spending gets cut by a miniscule $22 billion this year?

This administration has been lying about the origin of the sequester itself. They have been lying about the consequences of the sequester if the cuts kick in. It stands to reason that they’re also lying about this decision, which is backfiring on them. It will also sell more guns, by the way, once Americans become aware that thousands more criminals may be released from jails by this gun-grabbing government. Forewarned, forearmed.

I know, the government claims that they’re all non-violent offenders. Sure they are. They have no credibility.

A responsible media would follow up and inquire about the decision chain to lock it down. They would also follow up and report when any of these released inmates turn up involved in crimes down the road, as surely some of them will. They weren’t incarcerated in the first place because of their deep and abiding respect for the law.

Update: The AP tweets that an unnamed DHS official has resigned over the jail releases.

More to follow.
