Israel conducted an airstrike inside Syria overnight near the border with Lebanon, hitting a convoy of trucks, U.S. and regional officials said Wednesday.
The regional officials said Israel had been planning in the days leading up to the airstrike to hit a shipment of weapons bound for the Islamist militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon. They said the shipment included sophisticated, Russian-made SA-17 anti-aircraft missiles, which would be strategically “game-changing” in the hands of Hezbollah.
Hezbollah has committed to Israel’s destruction and has gone to war against the Jewish state in the past.
A U.S. official said the strike hit a convoy of trucks.
All the officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the strike.
The Israeli military declined to comment, and Syrian officials and state media were silent on the issue.
Of course they were.
As Bryan reported earlier, the convoy was reportedly full of Syrian chemical weapons being distributed to Hezbollah. No word from the White House if that violates any kind of “red line” or anything.
This might be the beginning of the end. Why is Assad now shipping weapons to his allies in Lebanon, and sent his mother out of the country if he thinks he’s going to win?
Did he send out his mother or mother-in-law?
From what I read, it was his mother. The headline was “defects” but I really doubt she defected to another country (Gulf Arab state, IIRC.) More likely she was sent. BTW, anyone seen his wife and kids lately?
Well, we know he’s only got a short time left when he calls his mother-in-law into the palace.
There is more to this. From what I am reading outside of the mainstream media, I am reading that these ‘freedom fighters’ are nothing more than islamic radicals trying to overthrow another country just like they did during the Arab Spring. But since we’re too pansy-assed to say anything other than Islam is a religion of peace, we have no choice but to support the rebels. I dunno, something sounds really fishy about this.
The Sunnis radicals are killing civilians and taking pics and blaming it on the Syrian government. There are some videos out there of paid mercenaries who have deserted from the ‘freedom fighters’ because they realize what’s really going on after arriving in Syria.
Of course, no one’s hands are clean and it’s hard to know who to believe, but I think we aren’t getting the full story.
