NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s big soda ban has come under fire from a new angle. The NAACP and Hispanic Federation argue that it may be racist.
The NAACP and the Hispanic Federation, a network of 100 northeastern groups, say minority-owned delis and corner stores will end up at a disadvantage compared to grocery chains.
“This sweeping regulation will no doubt burden and disproportionally impact minority-owned businesses at a time when these businesses can least afford it,” they said in court papers. They say the city should focus instead on increasing physical education in schools.
Because “minding its own business” was not an option?

This shows you what intellectual and philosophical space La Raza and the NAACP actually occupy. Bigotry and racism have not only been institutionalized, mainstreamed and given official seals of approval, they have been given a sheen of cool and morality.
The Dem Party is the last vestige of racism left in America. The Dems ran on racism in the last Presidential election with their accusations centered around “frighteningly white” towns like Clint Eastwood’s Carmel, “negrospotting” at the RNC and painting Romney as a flat out racist who cares nothing for blacks and prefers the company of whites. All this and much more was done on precisely zero evidence.
If you ever wondered how hate speech took over an entire nation in Europe, look no further. All you do is flip love and hate and make hate as American as apple pie and sauerkraut.
I fully support the NAACP. If a racism charge is what it takes to make Nanny B backdown I’m all for it.
Remember: Anything can be racist if you think about it hard enough.
Consider eggs. Annual automobile safety inspections. The principle of the lever. Coin-operated laundromats. Toothpaste. Dinosaur fossils. Orchids. Your lunch. The sky. Any expert will tell you that these are all evidence of endemic racism and white privilege.
Anyway, I thought the Koreans took over all the black-owned corner stores. Wasn’t that what we were supposed to be pissed off about a few years back?
The issue is:
reguation often creates ‘economic rents’; artifical costs that a big corp can manage better than a small business.
govt regulation generally benefits big corps and undermines small business.
Therefore, the NAACP is both right and wrong on this one. they are right that many minorities are hurt by govt regulations and wrong that the regulation targets minorities as opposed to all mom ‘n pops. generalizing, what if affirmative action did not benefit minorities and rather hurt them ? what evidence would we look for to support this conclusion ?

What’ll they say/do for an “encore”? Now that we know why that U-Tube “lady” loved “my Obamaphone” and called out “Romney sucks”, we also know who are the true racists: they’re the ones who ban XL-sodas! WOW, who’d have guessed?
