Here’s an antidote to your depression this morning.
So, for a while there during the campaign it seemed very iffy. But in the end, discipline and being on the right side of the issues prevailed. Yes, Elizabeth Warren won!
Oh, and that guy Obama too.
Tomorrow — or I guess today — comes the cleanup; when thousands, perhaps millions, of right-wing heads explode, it makes quite a mess. Also, notice that the polls were right. I wonder if I can get invited when Nate Silver is sworn in as president?
OK, somewhat more seriously: one big thing that just happened was that the real America trumped the “real America”. And it’s also the election that lets us ask, finally, “Who cares what’s the matter with Kansas?”
For a long time, right-wingers — and some pundits — have peddled the notion that the “real America”, all that really counted, was the land of non-urban white people, to which both parties must abase themselves. Meanwhile, the actual electorate was getting racially and ethnically diverse, and increasingly tolerant too. The 2008 Obama coalition wasn’t a fluke; it was the country we are becoming.
And sure enough that more diverse and, if you ask me, better nation just won big.
Notice too that to the extent that social issues played in this election, they played in favor of Democrats. Gods, guns, and gays didn’t swing voters into supporting corporate interests; instead, human dignity for women swung votes the other way.
A huge night for truth, justice, and the real American way.
Are you through feeling sorry for yourself? Good. Now wipe away your tears, come down off that ledge, put a band-aid on that open wound in your heart and get back in the game.

This isn’t a game. This isn’t even essentially politics. This is an issue of ruthless economics in which there is potential for enormous quantities of poverty, suffering and death in our future. Both the collapse of the dollar and a deep, long depression are both possible.
Of course. When you equate your political “team” with morals it comes naturally to do a victory dance over defeating evil.
Now comes the real challenge – what’s the plan? Obama doesn’t have one, the House can’t do it alone. I predicted yesterday that this second term will lead to the death of Progressivism (for a while) much like Bush’s second term lead to the death of Neo-conservatives. Who willingly proclaims they are neocons anymore? Expect the same as the regular now Progressives re-define themselves as something else.
Lenin gloated in his day, too… and presently died of syphilis.
America has died. There is no point in getting mad about it. It’s over. Greece is the best model we can hope for, and hope died.
“Greece is the best model we can hope for”
So, I guess the Obama plan is to use, what, the Chinese… as our “harder working, more productive and frugal Germans” to prop up the lazy entitlement mentality 16 trillion in debt has purchased…
Great plan. For Greece.
The Germans are pussies these days.
The Chinese?
Not so sure about that.
No. Obama’s plan is to use you as a milk cow to keep his cronies fed.
Krugman. Of Jewish heritage, right? Will he gloat when his honored person of the left, tosses Israel to the Islamists, forget under the bus.
Our nation did indeed lose, but so did Israel..
Wasn’t Mitt Romney “the Electable Candidate”?
From whom did I hear that?
Well…what happened to the Mitt the Electable?
Couldn’t even carry his home state…any of the five of ‘em.
We not only have an obviously stolen general election, and a stolen GOP primary (which is also how McCain got the nomination in 2008) but we also have a voting infrastructure that allows future elections to be stolen at will.
The 2012 GOP primary was hacked to make sure that Romney would get in, because he was the least electable candidate. Had the GOP candidate been anybody that normal people could like, then there might have been a mob with torches and pitchforks coming out after the 2012 general election was stolen. It’s tougher to preserve a veneer of credibility when stealing an election when it isn’t fairly close to begin with.
Until we can go back to paper ballots, purple fingers, and picture IDs, we no longer have a republic, and it no longer matters whether we can educate or persuade our fellow citizens.
“Gloating”, while reprehensible, is trivial. Urging revenge against the half of the polity that you disagree with, is not. Dozens of comments I have read this morning on conservative websites invaded by “progressives” suggest the latter is what they would prefer.
That is a sad commentary on what our politics has become and for the future of the country.
Yes, I’ve read them too…including the rumored ones about the plans of Valerie Jarret, who has the President’s ear.
For all their babble about Freedom and Rights and Peace, inside of every Moonbat is a Secret Policeman screaming to get out.
Let them come. The Tree of Liberty needs sustenance, and people need to be reminded in the most personal way that they bleed TOO.
Mr. Krugman has done the people of the state of Kansas a signal service–he should make them realize why they are fools to stay in a Federal Union with the likes of him. For he will make sure they live only by what he considers “proper”.
I wonder how the Mormons of Utah feel about the Union today? They are not loved by the Left, that is sure.
I’m a little more worried about an inevitable collapse than the gloating of some idiot.
Get in what game? It’s over. They have a right to gloat. Even more than we lost, they won, and this time it wasn’t just one election. They won the country.
There is nothing left to fight for, politically. We are not Americans, in the new sense of the word, they are. It’s their country now, not ours. But we have no where to go.
But we have no where to go.
Which is the truly depressing thing. Our ancestors had the option of coming to America. Where do we go for a new start…where is our land of opportunity?
#5 JP,
“Our nation did indeed lose, but so did Israel.”
My money says that, effective last night, the odds of Israel taking out Iran’s nukes have just dramatically increased.
Way to go, Obama supporters. You have likely just voted for World War III.
If I respected their opinion in the slightest, I’d care about their gloating. They will not be gloating too much over the next 4 years, I’ll wager. The gloating will end for the Obamabot middle class people, the sanctimonous white libs, when they get their tax bills and their portfolios dry up and when they find themselves having to wait 4 years to get hip replacement surgery. The gloating days for the young hipsters will be over when they find they have to move back in with mom and dad because they can’t find work. The gloating for the poor minorities will stop when the price of everything has shot up and when, one day, the government checks stop coming.
I expect we will all suffer. But my suffering will be alleviated by the fact that their pain will be worse. (Yes, I know that’s not Christian. I’m not feeling very Christian today.) We are bracing ourselves for pain. They are not, and will be shocked when the socialism they voted for fails. “Unexpectedly!” as the media says.
I know that Krugman intended it as a gloat but he is correct. The real country is him and people like him. I was under the delusion that it was still the country that I loved. It is not. That old America is gone. Now the only game is every man for himself as we all try to keep the government from stealing everything we have and trying to find a safe place to ride out the inevitable crash when they run out of money to steal.
This is the result of a weak, moderate candidate, a lack of nuts within the whole republican party and the embracing of mush-mouth, inconsistent moderate values. Reagan won landslides with conservatism, but our politicians today are too scared to embrace a conservative agenda: attack the anti-American liberals AND their lapdog media.
If these sissy-ass republicans do not impeach these sorry bastards, our nation is lost.
REMEMBER BENGHAZI!!
BarocheDique: 51% of the country thinks a former governor of MA is a raging extremist who is going to take away birth control.
No, the election was not lost because Romney is too moderate. It was lost because the electorate has moved left. All those decades of public school indoctrination have left their mark.
I doubt Reagan could be elected today.
