An individual by the name of Andrew Gail Holmes voted early in Sampson County, North Carolina, and then appeared at their precinct today to vote again, according to the staff director of the Sampson County Board of Elections, Donna Mashburn.
“We have a gentleman who had early voted,” Mashburn told me this morning, “and went to his precinct to vote. We are aware of it. We will handle the issue at canvassing.”
Canvassing takes place on November 16. At that point, the three-member board meets and will assess the attempted double vote along with other issues that arose during the election. The board will examine the evidence and could rule that charges are warranted. If they so rule, they will turn the case over to the district attorney to file charges. The three members of the board are two Democrats and one Republican, as determined by the previous gubernatorial election. North Carolina Gov. Bev Purdue, a Democrat, was elected in 2008 but is not seeking re-election.
According to state voter registration records, Andrew Gail Holmes has been a registered Democrat since 1982. Holmes is also identified in the records as a black female. Mashburn said that she identified the person’s gender on the basis of the first name — Andrew — and was not an eye witness to the attempted double vote.
Holmes is not the first North Carolina voter to allegedly attempt voter fraud this year. According to the Examiner, Pin Knoll Shores retiree Jim Turner is under investigation for allegedly voting multiple times in multiple places.
“I have voted once in Beaufort, once in Henderson, twice in Emerald Isle and will vote in my precinct in PKS,” he wrote on Facebook. The message was deleted, but not before being spotted by bloggers and conservatives on Twitter.
Sampson County is in east central North Carolina. John McCain won Sampson County in 2008, 54% to 45%, over Barack Obama.

Nice to see some place that is doing their job. I only hope that this policy is comprehensively enforced nation wide, and publicized to discourage others from attempting the same.
For every one we catch, a thousand or more get away with it. Perhaps we should actually prosecute one of these scumbags, as an example to the legions of other scumbags out there…
What a concept! Actually… prosecute one of these scumbags, er, citizens?
That just proves how hateful conservatives are!
Yes citizen. Conservatives hate liars and cheaters.
And liars and cheaters hate conservatives.
All is in order. Stay calm.
It would be interesting to see how the multiple voter and his/her apologists defend his/her actions….
Prosecute and punish. Examples need to be made so that people understand this is serious.
Racists! You just want to supress the vote of poor people!
I hope my sarcasm is recognized.
Oh, don’t worry, Rik, they’re just trying to balance out all those years where they counted as 3/5ths of a person. /s
He said poor people, not black people. You’re the one making that correlation. Way to get with the times.
Stupid criminals post their crimes on FB. It happens again and again.
I cannot understand people who wish to cheat in an election. I just do not get it. Of course, I never understood the guys who would argue an obviously good call in baseball. They called it, “part of the game”. I guess they simply accept that they, being inferior, have to cheat to get ahead. On second thought, no. That would require much introspection. I think they simply reach for the “easy” route.
Wow. Actually found one.
After months of hearing abou all “the voter fraud” that was going on, we find…one.
Colour me unimpressed.
Judging by your spelling – “colour” instead of “color” – you aren’t even American so what’s it to you? Are the Democrats hiring their trolls from Canada now?
There are actually two in this post alone. See if you can spot the second one.
Since you’re a foreign troll I’ll excuse your ignorance. However, do me a favor. Google US Fraud Convictions, read the results and then let me know if you “see” a pattern (i.e. all frauds are in the same party, etc). OK?
Currently living in Australia, but a US citizen nonetheless (postal voting is a pain, but civic duty and all that…).
And no, from the information I’ve gotten, what fraud has occurred previously (and of course there is some, I’m cynical, not stupid) has been pretty evenly distributed between both parties. As one would expect, actually – both parties woul naturally have pretty much the same percentage of bad people willing to break the law for their ideology.
But the cries of “fraud, fraud!” have been exclusively right wing, and the lurid (and quite unbelievable) tales and anecdotes circulating invariably Republican. And now, on this (admittedly) right wing site (I have no problem with that – in fact, I appreciate the honesty) there is a piece crowing about:
One person caught.
I am still, less than impressed.
Look up the videos, posted to this site and others, of the hidden camera stings where paid Obama campaign workers at various OFA offices around the country encouraged, prepared documents for, and laughed about voter fraud. The one involving the candidates son is particularly bad. In addition the last few elections have followed a pattern where ballots are “found” somewhere after the fact miraculously giving the Democrat the magic number of votes they need to win, see Gregoire in WA and Al Franken. Both parties probably have equivalent numbers of rouge bad apples, but I know of no videos equivalent to the ones showing organized encouragement of fraud at Democrat offices.
Or the precincts with 100%+ voter turnout – those all happen in Democrat strongholds, too.
“By any means necessary…”, Malcolm X
And Marx, and Lenin, and Stalin, and Mao, and – dare I say it – Hitler. All believed in uniting under one evil banner by hook, crook, murder, and intimidation.
– nothing you can do aboot it, eh?
Of course, the voter just assumed they get one vote for each gender. Perfectly honest mistake.
It is absolutely insane and borderline suicidal as a nation, that we just allow any moron to vote.
If you can’t get a photo ID, you should not be allowed to vote. If you can’t maintain a job, you should not be allowed to vote. If you can’t read the darn ballot, you should not be allowed to vote.
Why is anyone shocked that this nation is imploding. We allow the idiots and the leeches to vote for more and more entitlements.
Now, my comments prior to yours in this thread, reverend, have been somewhat tongue in cheek. Requiring a certain amount of ID in order to get on the voting rolls? I honestly don’t think it’s necessary. On the other hand, I can’t honestly say that I strongly oppose it, either, and there are some good arguments for it.
You, on the other hand, have aroused my ire.
Yes, reverend, we DO allow any moron to vote. And that’s the way it’s supposed to be. Because the whole point of our beautiful democratic republic is to allow EVERYONE to have a say in their own governance – yes, including people who can’t maintain a job, or can’t read (after all, back in 1790′s most people had trouble with that).
And one of the reasons it was set up that way is that no one is smart enough, or wise enough, to say whether or not another is sufficiently good, or wise, or smart, or dedicated, or literate, or religious, or areligious, cynical, idealistic or world-weary, or any other trait, so as to be allowed to vote.
Most assuredly including me, and most assuredly including you.
So, reverend, I would kindly request that you take your anti-democracy claptrap and put it where the sun does not shine.
Ummm – voting was much more restrictive back then.
Kevin, back in the 1790s, voting was limited to land owners only. So, everyone had a job. They might not have been able to read (my ancestors in Detroit regularly signed with a mere X, even though the head of household had been the French recorder of deeds, but his children never signed their names) but they certainly spoke the language. However, as has been proven, there’s really no good way to determine who ought to vote other than citizenship.
Of course, in Ohio, you neither need to prove your citizenship to register to vote or prove your identity to vote (in both cases, they take your word for it and are not allowed to check further).
So, I think that we need to give free government-issued ID cards to everyone who wants to vote. In 2016, if you don’t have yours, you don’t get to vote. 4 years is plenty of time to make it to the registrar, seeing as voting itself requires you to show up in a particular place on a particular day.
After all, how can Obamacare ensure that everyone has insurance if we can’t even be sure of people’s names?
Now, that’s a program I could get behind. Just give EVERYONE photo ID, no cost – oh, there would be a small government expense, but this is what taxes are really for, to give us the services we actually need. It’d resolve the identification problem AND the disenfranchisement problem at one stroke.
And you’re right, of course, that voting was restricted massively in the 1790′s. But even with that level of restriction, there was no requirement to be literate – and that was one of the reverend’s stated criteria.
If we only allowed intelligent, knowledgeable people to vote the Republicans would never win and only like ten percent of the public would be able to vote. Tops. Remember:
Being rich makes you more likely to vote Republican BUT
Being smart makes you more likely to vote Democrat
This shocks a lot of people, but it is so. Basically, CEOs are Republicans, scientists and engineers (the real job creators) are… well, not really democrats, more liberal people who vote for Democrats because they are the closest to what they really want.
Remember: if you don’t know that the US isn’t a Christian nation, then you wouldn’t be able to vote if we actually required knowledge of our system to do so.
Incidentally, regarding the above: the question becomes whether or not the voter voted twice, or whether one of the “voters” in question was a different person impersonating said voter (or yet another typo; apparently some lists of “people who have voted early/absentee” are messed up. Good job!).
We’ll likely find out when the signatures match (or don’t), but if they signatures do match that’s probable cause for prosecution.
The “smart” thing is a fallacy. Financially successful advanced degrees vote R, bachelors split. Only engineers and scientists think only they are smart. Would you rather have a nuclear physicist with a PhD determining foreign policy, or someone who’s actually worked in it whose degree is merely in political science? Liberals have a misplaced arrogance about their smarts because of all the gals with MAs in French literature, comparative linguistics and women’s studies.
If Eric Holder stays in – he beleives in the Chicago Way – Voter Early – Vote Often (as long as it is for the “correct” candidate. Nothing will happen to this guy – just like nothing happend to the New Black Panther Party Members – who are doing it agian this year.
By not prosecuting these people, they invite this. Either prosecute them or declare that the presidential race is like American Idol and we can all vote as many times as we can call in.
The only problem leftists have with voter ID is in swing states.
In Kansas, this is the first year we have to show photo ID to vote, yet Eric Holder hasn’t brought a lawsuit against us? Hmmmm, wonder why?
Photo voter ID for all states…NOW!
As for Turner, supposedly, the story now is it was a Facebook joke. I’m not sure which is stupider, however. Admitting you voted multiple times or telling everybody you did when you didn’t. Maybe he’ll walk into a police station and confess to murders he didn’t commit.
And they caught a Republican poll worker altering ballots after they had been cast(only two, I think). In a nation with millions of voters, neither is a very large sample size.
