CBS News is reporting that this weekend’s NY Marathon has been canceled. Details to follow as they become available.
Update: Details.
The New York City marathon will not take place this Sunday, NBC 4 New York has learned.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg had defended his decision to hold the 26.2-mile race as scheduled on Sunday, although many New Yorkers complained it would be insensitive and divert city resources at a time when many are suffering.

It was a smart decision. NYC and the other boroughs are a mess. Tempers are flaring. You can’t have a happy happy sporting event when there’s a possibility for massive civil unrest.
I disagree – it WOULD have been a smart decision, had it been the one he originally made. By changing his mind after receiving criticism for the original decision to hold it, he just looks like (even more of) an indecisive idiot.
Good point.
Well, I think Bloomberger should reinstate the super-sized Happy Meal with jumbo cokes: do it for the children before they have temper tantrums. And along with the free needle exchanges, how about free dope to keep everyone mellow?
I thought New Yorkers were too tough to be defeated by mere nature.
And the answer is–they are. Bloomberg should have asked, instead of told. They would have risen to the challenge.
– an idea short and a week too late.
– to New York: Drop Dead.
What? And let this crisis go to waste?
