Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson said he represents all of the self-described libertarians who don’t vote Libertarian.
But, he confidently predicted, that “movement” will one day win the White House.
Johnson is still bucking for the opportunity to do that this year, but didn’t make it into any of the presidential debates. He noted on CNN today that he’s on the ballot in 49 states, making him the only third-party candidate with similar ballot access to President Obama and Mitt Romney.
“I think there needs to be a truth candidate in all of this,” he said, adding that if runaway spending isn’t brought under control “we’re going to find ourselves without a country.”
The governor again brushed off assertions that he’s a potential spoiler on Election Day.
“In New Mexico, in Colorado, in Nevada I take more votes away from Obama. North Carolina, Michigan, I take more votes away from Romney,” he said. “What’s most important is that I am a voice representative of fiscal responsibility and social acceptance.”
Johnson said he believes the majority of Americans are fiscally responsible and socially accepting.
“Where are the majority of Americans being represented by either of these two? And I’ll just tell you, from my viewpoint, what I’m representing is the fastest growing segment of American politics today, the whole libertarian movement, those that would describe themselves as libertarian that historically don’t end up voting libertarian,” he said.
“We’ll see what happens on Election Day, but most important, representing — providing a voice here that isn’t being heard right now.”

Gary Johnson has talked up a good game on his web site and elsewhere claiming that he’s The People’s President and engaging in all sorts of amusing arm-waving about the budget, pot smoking and gay marriage.
But it is my contention that one should look at what someone does as opposed to what they say.
After all, political talk is cheap but deeds are harder to run from. As I have previously noted his fiscal record as Governor is not quite what he claims. During his time as governor every single line item I examined increased in spend and State Debt grew.
Thus, the claim of a “balanced budget” is a lie; it was “balanced” exactly the same way Clinton balanced the budget — he shifted funds from one place to another, in this case onto your kids and the unborn through borrowing. It is an abject lie to say your household budget is balanced when you “balanced” it by running up $20,000 on the credit card!

I will be voting for Gary Johnson two Tuesdays from now.
Obama is a bumbling incompetant; perhaps the worst President we’ve ever had.
Romney is a tool of the christian right who wants to impose their own version of Sharia law across America.
A vote for Gary Johnson is a vote for Obama and not in the best interests of our country.
And a vote for Romney IS in the best interests of our country?!
Stop being silly, a vote for Gary Johnson is a vote for Gary Johnson, simple as that.
While I can accept your second assertion on its own, your first comment is ridiculous on the face of things. Unless you genuinely believe that Romney is no worse than Obama, arguably the most destructive Chief Executive the US has ever had, then a vote for Johnson is most significantly a vote not cast AGAINST Obama.
We must all pull together to rid ourselves of Obama and his cronies before a second term allows him, among other things, the opportunity to seat as many as TWO (or more) SC Justices, altering the bench for decades, at least. Or do you see a majority Liberal SC supporting Libertarian interpretations of the Constitution under an extended Obama regime? With Chief Justice Roberts going off the farm on Obamacare, we already know how bad things can get even with a nominal Conservative majority. Allowing Obama to pack the bench would create a rubber-stamp to his diktats, and those of any succeeding Dem POTUS, a potential result of losing this one, last chance to reform election and voter fraud laws, before the Dems steal ALL elections to come, and no Libertarian, Conservative, or other non-Dem party will ever succeed in winning, again.
It’s all that, and more, that is at risk. Vote AGAINST Obama, to ensure that the one candidate who can beat him does so. Or our current economic woes will be the least of our worries, as our remaining liberties dry up and blow away. =’[.]‘=
A vote for Gary Johnson is just that a vote for Gary Johnson . I will NOT waste my Vote on Obamney!
