Did Al Qaeda in Iraq Play a Role in the Benghazi Assault?

That’s what Front Page is reporting.

U.S. intelligence believes that assailants connected to al Qaeda in Iraq were among the core group that attacked the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, a U.S. government official told CNN.

The revelation that members of al Qaeda in Iraq are suspected of involvement in the Libya attack comes at a time when there is a growing number of fighters from that group also taking part in the Syrian civil war.

The weakened al Qaeda affiliate has had a resurgence in Iraq since U.S. forces left the country at the end of last year.

If this is true, it’s a searing indictment of President Obama’s actions. The United States had al Qaeda in Iraq defeated. Obama pulled our troops out on a political rather than tactical timeline. He is promising to do the same thing in Afghanistan. Those vacuums are being filled by our enemy.

Due to the choices Obama is making, Al Qaeda will end up with bases of operation in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Tunisia, Syria and probably the Palestinian territories. It will also have an ally and probable state sponsor in the new Muslim Brotherhood-dominated Egypt.

The world Obama is leaving behind is a far more dangerous place than it was just four years ago. America is weaker due to our unsustainable debt and the looming defense cuts, and al Qaeda is “on the run” — forward, and all over the place.
