Obama: 'I'm the same guy I was 10-12 years ago.'

Today, Barack Obama challenged the press to find his flip-flops, declaring that his positions are the same as they were about a decade ago. The man whose administration is currently presiding over a cover-up of the Benghazi assault even declared that “Trust matters.”

Barack Obama has flip-flopped on a whole range of issues in the past few years. Buzzfeed collects a few of them. They include his position on guns, the Cuba embargo, gay marriage, enforcing immigration law, decriminalization of marijuana laws, the use of executive privilege, even the individual health insurance mandate, which he opposed as a candidate only to impose as president.

To that list can be added Obama’s promise to close Gitmo, which remains open.

But Obama’s statement opens him up to another kind of scrutiny well beyond his flips and flops. In the past 10-12 years, he has said several strident, controversial and revealing things.

In January 2008, Obama promised to make energy prices skyrocket and bankrupt the coal industry in order to force Americans to use more of his preferred sources of energy. Is he still that same guy?

Four years ago, Barack Obama told Big Labor that their agenda was his agenda. Notice his accent in this video, too. Is he the same guy now that he was then?

In 2007, Barack Obama delivered a racially tinged speech in which he praised Rev. Jeremiah Wright and said that race played a role in the federal government’s response to Hurricane Katrina. Is the racist who appears in this video the same man we see now?

The Obama we see now is the same man we see in these older clips. Decide for yourself if that’s a good thing or not.

There’s one more tape that could shed some light on Obama and whether he is the same man: The Khalidi tape, on which Obama supposedly praises Islamist Rashid Khalidi. America could use that tape to evaluate Mr. Obama and his priorities, but the LA Times, which has the tape, refuses to release it.
