Democrats have been trying to speak during pro forma sessions in an attempt to cast a negative light on GOP House leaders who let the chamber leave for the campaign recess.
Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.) gaveled in this morning’s session and quickly adjourned after a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. At each of the twice-weekly pro forma sessions over the past three weeks, Dems have tried to speak on the floor, only having success the last week of September.
Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) interrupted Womack, seeking permission to speak, but was not recognized by the chair.
“I just got shelved like a binder,” McCollum complained afterward, using the party’s battle point from the last presidential debate.
McCollum, who sits on the Appropriations and Budget committees, said was going to encourage Congress to return to work and address issues including the Violence Against Women Act reauthorization.
The House is due back at work on Nov. 13.

Like a binder? At least a binder is objectively useful. How about “…shelved like auntie Ethel’s cremains?”
