Former Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords (D) made a stirring appearance last night in Charlotte to lead DNC delegates in the pledge of allegiance.
Her new endeavor, though, is intended to cross over the aisle and encourage compromise from her party in Congress.
The Blue Dog Democrat resigned in January to focus on her recovery from a shooting in her home district a year earlier. This week, she and her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, launched a political action committee.
“Gabby PAC will only support candidates who are dedicated to working hard for common-sense, bipartisan solutions that strengthen our communities and our entire country,” the pair said in announcing the venture. “This commitment to public service over partisanship is what guided Gabby while she was serving the people of Arizona and will be the guiding principle of Gabby PAC.”
Issues of focus will be “strengthening of our economy, finding and supporting renewable sources of energy, caring for our returning veterans and creating more opportunity for young people.”
The chairmen of the PAC are former Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson, who unsuccessfully ran for the GOP Senate nomination against Rand Paul in 2010, and former Clinton Administration Secretary of Labor Robert Reich.

Robert Reich: paragon of bipartisan compromise.
Even the presence of an opportunist, liar, and traitor at her side didn’t diminish that rousing and heroic rendition of the Pledge. I wish Gabby Giffords all the best.
But as for the shambling deformation of a human walking at her side, have you no shame, Debbie Wasserman Schmaltz???? You fell even further into the sewer of your own creation by trying to have some of the grandeur of that moment rub off on you. You sully this nation.
She should just retire and enjoy her family.
– for and being denied a meeting with Reid, Pelosi and Schumer.
Cynical as it may be to say, but given the district Giffords represented, and the actions of other Democrats this week looking to remain viable in swing districts or states, if Gabby hadn’t been shot, there’s a good chance she would have been among those who would have skipped the DNC Convention this year to be as far away from Obama as possible.
A moment tainted by having to be led onto stage by Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.
It’s shameful…the exploitation.
“Bipartisan”, meaning life as the prestigious college-educated elites see it. A minority attempting to set itself as the arbiters of all.
You believe in limited government, fiscal responsibility, and constitutional integrity. Your opponent believes in expanding the federal government, government deficit spending to stimulate the economy, and the Constitution as a living document that must be modified to keep up with the “changing world”. What is the bipartisan position, Gabby (or whoever is using you as a front person)?
1. Stand on your principles; explain the reasoning behind your position; let the voters decide.
2. Split the differences with your opponent to reach a half-right, half-wrong position on each issue.
3. Give your opponent your support on 50% of his/her measures, in the hopes that he/she will reciprocate on 50% of your initiatives.
Here’s my question for you, Gabby. Why is a Republican who stands on principle and votes his/her conscience an extremist? Why is a Republican who splits the difference between right and wrong, or supports the wrong decision half the time a “bipartisan”? And, finally, why is someone who supports the Ruling Class Republican/Democrat initiatives over the expressed interest of their Country Class constituents fulfilling their oath of office?
