On Tuesday, talkmaster Rush Limbaugh picked up a phrase from our post regarding President Obama’s move to punish Arizona on immigration.
On his Tuesday radio show, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh employed a description he borrowed from the PJ Tatler blog to describe Obama’s action toward Arizona in the wake of yesterday’s Supreme Court decision strike down significant parts of that state’s immigration legislation: He’s gone Soviet.
Limbaugh said Obama’s action were punitive.
“The regime is using the Department of Homeland Security to punish Obama’s enemies,” Limbaugh said. “I saw a great phrase at a blog post on PJ Media — Obama went ‘Soviet’ on Arizona. Let me read to you from that post. ‘This is a political maneuver designed to punish Arizona, which had the audacity’ — I mean, what is this really all about? Obama is not enforcing immigration law. Arizona is falling apart. A responsible governor says, ‘All right, well, we’re going to write some laws to give us the ability to enforce the border ourselves.’”
The conservative talker said much of this reaction stems from Obama’s personality.
“You don’t do that to a solipsistic, narcissistic little man-child like Barack Obama. You just don’t do openly challenge the king like this,” he continued. “So Barack Obama turned around and sued Arizona: ‘Who the hell do you think you are? You want to enforce immigration law? Okay, let me show you what’s going to happen to you. I’m going to tell you we’re not going to enforce immigration law, and I’m going to take you all the way to the Supreme Court, and I don’t care what happens to your state.’ And that is exactly what happened. And so Arizona is being punished. Now, they might want to say this is political punishment, but it has real-world consequences.”
This, the radio host said, is proof that Arizona is considered to be out of play for his campaign in the 2012 election and will be made an example of for other border states to see.
Here’s the post Rush is referring to, in case you missed it.
The Democrats’ punitive attitude doesn’t stop with Obama or his administration. I didn’t catch much TV Tuesday but did catch a couple of useful moments. Juan Williams appeared on Special Report and agreed with the administration’s decision to stop cooperating with Arizona on immigration enforcement. Democrat Bob Beckel used his time on Fox’s The Five Tuesday to bitterly criticize Arizona, agreeing with Obama’s decision to halt cooperation with Arizona on immigration enforcement and declaring that the United States should get rid of the state and “send it south.” How one might do that with an entire state is an unanswerable question, though I have no doubt that he would like to do the same to my state, Texas. For having the audacity to hope that the federal government will step forward and just do its job, securing the nation’s borders, Democrats from Obama on down are piling undisguised and undiluted hate on beleaguered Arizona.
For what it’s worth: Arizona’s immigration law enjoyed as much as 65% support nationwide, and a majority of Americans of all backgrounds want the border secured. The open borders crowd talks a good game but their position is a weak one politically and a bankrupt one morally.

How one might do that with an entire state is an unanswerable question, though I have no doubt that he would like to do the same to my state, Texas.
Please, Senator, don’t throw me into that briar patch!
Seriously, my Texas getting kicked out of the deeply dysfunctional US would not cause me much heartburn at all.
Actually, in the SCOTUS decision in White vs Texas (1869), the decision made an interesting reference that touches on states leaving the union.
Now, keep in mind that Chief Justice Chase was also a former cabinet member under Lincoln, so his views are going to be biased to justify the actions of the US during the Civil War, that his views don’t necessarily agree with those of the Founding Fathers statements on secession, and also the fact he seems to be speaking in contradictions in referring first to the union being “indissoluble” – but he makes this statement as part of the written ruling in that case:
“The union between Texas and the other States was as complete, as perpetual, and as indissoluble as the union between the original States. There was no place for reconsideration or revocation, except through revolution or through consent of the States.”
So, if we defer to legal precedent, it would seem that a state may peacefully leave the union with the consent of the States.
If that is the case, then what constitutes “consent of the States”?
A simple majority vote in Congress or at the state legislative levels, and does it have to be unanimous? There were 37 states in 1861, so the 13 states that formed the Confederacy did not have a majority – would it have changed things if 19 states had seceded?
Is it a matter of the rest of the country simply not not taking action to stop that state from going its own way and thereby signifying acquiecence?
Could the state of Arizona (or Texas, or any number of other states looking to abandon the union) then legally be kicked out if “the States” agree to that action?
How would that work?
Could ya take Oklahoma with ya? Please please please!
One thing I don’t understand: why the State of Arizona is not suing the Federal Administration for failing to defend Arizona borders ?
And any and every victim of a crime committed by an illegal alien should sue the Federal Administration as well.
Send us south? LOL
Dude, please don’t tease me like that. Please, please, please send us south!! In fact, let us secede from the United States so we can go back to being our own country (Texas).
“Send us south” indeed. That’s right up there with Derbyshire was right.
New meme of the day: Send us south
Unanswerable?
You mean the United States can’t open up negotiations with Mexico to create a “co-sovereignty” regime in Aztlán? Something like what the Europeans set up with China in the late 19th century to handle issues with their nationals.
This, by the way, also qualifies as “… we will fundamentally transform America”.
Obama – Lincoln in Reverse?
What is seldom mentioned in the debates about border enforcement and amnesties is how unfair the present, unofficial but bipartisan policy is to the foreigners, often from the same countries as the illegals, who want to come here, but obey all the rules.
Rush is right and he has the big cojones to say it in public where some others have not. This administration is not working for the us they are working against us. They use suppression, intimidation, manipulation, and opression to get us to give in and stop fighting and just accept it. And I would not doubt it if there are other things going on right now in different states as retribution for not following along. The unions use this same strategy to get people to conform. Imagine what hides behind the curtain. The information and dirt drug up on all types of officials to bend them over the whipping post. Just imagine if one official fell on his sword and told of all the things going on behind closed doors. Just imagine….
I am delighted that Mr. Beckel has desires to change the status quo. This is because I have my own ideas of how things would go if the Democrats ever “fired on Fort Sumter”, in one way, shape, form or the other.
I would love to meet Bob Beckel. He must be an absolutely wonderful man, a delight to be around. Otherwise I don’t understand why Fox and the other members of “The Five” continue to give him a forum.
In the interests of transparency, I propose that the amount of money paid to pundits who appear on these TV shows be made public.
How much is Beckel paid to be on “The Five”?
How much is Juan Williams paid to appear on the O’Reilly show?
How much is Alan Colmes, who is married to Monica Crowley’s sister, paid to appear on the O’Reilly show?
Because it’s all about the Benjamin$ and you can bet these mutts are making a killing off appearing as Lib-tards on these pundit shows and making their Lib-tard, clueless comments.
Clueless alright. Clueless all the way to the bank.
well, would he mind not enforcing immigration on the entirely charming namibian camp counsellor? he’s white. he’s got a work permit. he’s convinced he has to go home at the end of summer. why can’t we keep him? He’s well- educated, religious, hard-working, smart, tall, handsome, good with kids, etc etc etc.
And, oh please. If he’s going to kick Arizona out, he’ll have to throw Texas out, too. 45% of all the jobs in the last three years. Between Chicago, and Detroit, I think we’d get 100% of the USA’s productive citizens in about five years, tops.
Democrats never cease to amaze. They started a Civil War to split the Union. That was back in 1860/61. They lost. Now, in 2012, they’re up to the same shenanigans. They’re suggesting splitting up the Union again. Being a Democrat must be a mental illness.
I am astounded so very few seem aware of the ramifications of the Administration/Dept of Homeland Securities election to “hang up on calls” from Arizona to check on and potentially address legally (under 1070 and Simpson-Mazzoli) apprehended alien invaders! The Administration had just announced their new catch and release policy. They followed it up with the de facto “amnesty” of 800,000 young invaders and the authorization to legally compete and take US jobs. Talk about magnetic incentives! A veritable “Come on to my house (country) my housa (country)come on, I’m gonna giva you Everything!” Arizona (Arpaio), Texas (Governor), Florida (West) seem to grasp the import of the “Arizona Drop Dead” announcement with its resulting open southern border, most specifically for today in Arizona. The entire nation is compromised by open borders and the Administration edicts.
We have always needed to deal with sealing/securing our nations borders before tackling the issues attendant to the undocumented currently present.
Open borders, to me, are the height of insanity and Administrative malfeasance. Why are most of our elected officials and candidates silent on this issue? (Evidently including the Courts)
I do hope President Romney has plans to drop kick *EVERY* political appointtee infesting the administration on day one. And that includes all the US attorneys. He has precedent, BillyJeff did it. Better the positions remain unfilled than to allow these fellow travellers of marxism to continue their toils.
And I would really love to see inauguration day moved to be the day after the elections results are confirmed. We don’t need a 3 month %*#( you session of congreff. If someone is voted out of office his/her ability to weigh in in an official capacity should stop, that day. I mean, really, no one is riding horseback to get to DC anymore, that is so 18th century.
