The Fox story about the judge’s decision to revoke George Zimmerman’s bond, and ordering him to return to jail within 48 hours, is over in Scuttlebutt. The crux: Zimmerman claimed to have very limited assets at his bail hearing, but he had raised $200,000 for his defense through a web site. Bob Owens was watching the proceedings and says that Zimmerman may have destroyed his credibility for no reason at all today.
[T]he State dropped a bombshell, claiming that George Zimmerman hid a second passport, and that he and his wife lied about the money they had at their disposal prior to the bond hearing. Furthermore, they had their poorly coded conversation about the money recorded via the prison phone system.
The passport was deemed an procedural gaffe by Zimmerman’s attorney, but lying about the funds was not, and the judge revoked bail and ordered Zimmerman back to jail. Zimmerman stood a decent chance of getting the case dismissed on self defense, but now that he has destroyed his credibility with the judge, that seems unlikely.

A man who knew he was going to get railroaded panicked and managed to book his own execution.
No matter what would have happened down the road, GZ was likely a dead man, even had he been acquitted or the case been thrown out.
No chance of that happening now.
The passport was deemed an procedural gaffe by Zimmerman’s attorney, but lying about the funds was not
Question, when did he get those funds? Were they raised before or after charges were brought against him?
If the money came in after the charges were filed and after he said he had little money, then he didn’t lie.
The funds came from the defense fund set up after he was indicted. The Fla prosecutors office knew about the web site, the donations (charity) and the totals. They sandbagged the Zimmermans. The strategy is to impoverish them via lawyer fees and grind them to dust before forcing him to plea bargain out. This is lawfare at its worst. Cheers -
Wow. Is there a new Journolist? “Credibility destroyed”?
In whose eyes?
Did this erase all the physical evidence supporting his statement?
Before we rush to judgment on this, let’s wait and see what happens.
George Zimmerman is a hero. Trayvon was the aggressor and a thug. What Zimmerman did was the right thing and the judge has no right to question Zimmerman’s credibility.
Well, the prosecutor is going forward with what little they have. The television coverage last night was certainly slanted against GZ. The prosecutor was able to comment for several sentences about how GZ hid his passport and the website money. The defense attorney got in 1 line about how the website money may not have been available for bail, then the story cut to the TM family attorney. Lots of crying, outrage, etc, from the TM family attorney, but all they could really do was call GZ a liar. The news story also showed GZ only in cuffs or prison garb. The news only showed TM in the cute middle school picture. Sure looked like the news had a particular slant.
Isn’t there any spousal privilege in Florida? The spousal privilege in the law, between husband and wife, should be as strong as between doctor and patient, lawyer and client and priest and penitent. How can the prosecutors listen into a privileged communication? I don’t get it.
I haven’t seen any evidence he lied about the funds. He said he didn’t know they were available, and I have seen no evidence to the contrary.
Is there evidence the second passport was a procedural error by his attorney? You can normaly only get a passport by turning in an old one. Was one presumed lost, a replacement obtained, and the first then found and still not expired?
I don’t see that not surrendering an expired passport should concern the court.
