For Yom Yerushalayim:
Mohammed rode the night horse, or so the Korans say
Mohammed rode the night horse to a mosque so far away
And his followers the Muslims, coming after his death, claim
That the mosque upon the Mount is the mosque the Koran names.
Never mind the mosque upon the Mount was never even there
At the time Mohammed—so they claim—took his ride in the air.
Never mind the mosque upon the Mount was built in later days—
Mere factual reality did ne’er a Muslim faze.
Broadcast on Al-jazeera, in the seething Arab street,
Are echoed calls to Muslims that they must not retreat
That they must not cede unto the Jews they hold of no account
Possession of the Mountain and the mosque upon the Mount.
The Muslims lost the mosque and lost the Mount on which it stands
A foolish choice was made then that it stay within their hands
And feverishly ever they work so as to erase
The record of the Temple there—which must take pride of place.
The world stands by complacent at the Mount destruction news—
When cared the nations for the holy places of the Jews?
But bad though the nations’ silence be, the silence that is worse
Is that of Jews who stand by as the destruction occurs.
Why should a people conquered justly through the force of arms
Be permitted to retain a symbol that does lasting harm?
Why should the conquered be allowed to rule the Temple Mount
And by this hold their conquerors to be of no account?
The mosque upon the Mount is beautiful, or so they say
But like the earlier Temple, it also may pass away—
The mosque was built to show who’d conquered many years ago;
The reason it was raised is also why it now must go.
O Jews, who claim Jerusalem is still your capital
How can you claim this when the Mountain still remains in thrall?
It is in thrall by your consent. Jerusalem will be
Your capital united when the Mount has been set free.

Taqquiya I believe it is called. Lies to infidels (all non-Muslims)to preserve the integrity and honor of Islam. They do it constantly.
Thanks Buzz for yet another jewel!
It’d be better as “El Paso” by Marty Robbins. Especially if one thinks of it with goofy banjo music, horse’s neighing and donkey’s braying.
Buzz, you just keep getting better and better!
Yippie Yah Yo, Yippie Ya Yay…. Sand Riders in the Storm…
I’m not so sure that it can go — practically speaking. Too many lies have been told. Too many uneducated, and “educated”, people have believed them.
If it’s true that Saladin was the one who made al-Malik’s original lie stick, then the Kurdish general was the only one who had a valid reason – simply motiving his troops in wartime.
All the rest of it, from al-Malik and his son on, has been political B.S. — hunger for power which one doesn’t have and has no rational, viable or justifiable way of getting.
PIMF … “motivating his troops”
(*facepalm, groans*)
“I’m not so sure that it can go — practically speaking. Too many lies have been told. Too many uneducated, and “educated”, people have believed them.”
In many ways I disagree with this but you do bring up a good point. The mosque has been support through lies and those lies first need to be shown to be such. This should be a task with great priority to prevent the further ingraining of the lies.
The mosque has been used as a purpose for Muslims to continue to demand part of Jerusalem, a piece of propaganda to incite violence, and a likely place to supply and organize that violence. Without the mosque there would no longer be a symbol for Muslims to claim that perticular land besides as what it really is, a plot to steal other people’s land. The mosque on the Temple Mount is no more important than any other (which Muslims have no problem destroying of other sects or other religions). It is an important place for Jews (and Christians) with or without the building of a new Temple.
The mosque’s presence may offend, but eliminating it could be much worse. It might lead to construction of a new temple and the logical resumption of animal sacrifices (bullocks, sheep, etc.) which would offend a great many more. It would be PETA at the gate!
No need to raze the mosque….just redesignate it like the Al Hambra in Granada or the Hagia Sophia in Istambul….
If it were Christians who wanted it, your suggestion would make sense, but Jews cannot simply rededicate the Dome of the Rock. It does not obey the specifications for a Temple, and the Torah commands them to tear down pagan sites, not repurpose them.
The Dome of the Rock is simply that—a dome. It is a hangar for the stone upon which, tradition has it, Isaac was bound and Jacob laid his head when he had his famous dream.
The mosque upon the Mount is the Al-Aksa Mosque, which is a structure separate from the Dome of the Rock.
nice work Buzz
