Finally, as everyone predicted:
President Obama today announced that he now supports same-sex marriage, reversing his longstanding opposition amid growing pressure from the Democratic base and even his own vice president.
In an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts, the president described his thought process as an “evolution” that led him to this place, based on conversations with his own staff members, openly gay and lesbian service members, and conversations with his wife and own daughters.
I’ll let everyone duke it out in the comments section.

I used to be in favor of SSM, given my libertarian impulses. But the gay activists have been so unpleasant (and I particularly despise the courtroom angle, it’s a legislative creation, go to the legislature if you want change) that I’ve reversed myself.
Neither married nor gay – ya’ll have fun.
Boy, that was an unexpected move by Ogabe. Not.
Of course he’s in favor of gay marriage. The only supporters of his that are against it are black voters, and it’s not like he’ll lose their vote.
At least he finally did something right.
Why not try something new and declare the government should have no say — no privileges nor penalties — in how people live together? That “due process” means that all men and women should be treated equally, regardless of marital status…..which, under the establishment clause, shouldn’t even be recorded by the Feds, much less acted upon?
Obama has fully evolved.
From supporting GM in 1996, then throwing gays under the bus to run for president, then back to supporting GM in 2012
Rich gay donors were threatenen to withhold money.
Evoking laughter or anger every time he bragged that he was a fierce advocate for gays, but too gutless to support GM.
The heat was on. I guess that’s Obama’s idea of courage. Being forced to decide. Sort of sounds like how he decided to go after Bin Laden.
That’s not courage.
You mean it was all for the money from FudgePAC™?
No, it’s not courage, it’s “leading from behind”. Biden.
Leading from Biden’s behind.
“Evolution,” the latest Newspeak and semantic gibberish from the Dem Party to say “opportunism.”
Leading from behind.
With respect, but who cares? Concentrate on the big things. Arguments over, or discussions of distractions, like this, or use of the word “Forward” won’t move the ball.
BTW, the motto of my state in “Forward”
Now all we need for him to do is come out of the closet on his Marxism!
This reminds me of Blazing Saddles when the Attorney General hired every crook, gangster, Nazi, racist, motorcycle gang and gender bender he could find to come against the citizens Rock Ridge so he could steal their land.
Now I bet slimy creepy Obama will charge them a fee for the privilege of voting for him. The problem with all of this is when you get in bed with everybody then you have a much greater chance of getting their diseases.
What’s the difference between an “evolving” and “flip-flopping”?
The Dems consistently made fun of the GOP, and their family values platform, whereas now they are pushing gay family values.
Take a minute to google search Euro Communism. It will give you a better understanding of the modern democrat party.
Wow – The heat must really have been on! I expected The Prez to keep “evolving” until after the first week in November when (a) he could embrage gay marriage safely or (b) it wouldn’t matter. I thought that Biden’s remarks the other day were simply a way of showing that “the administration” (as opposed to Obama personally) was for SSM. That way Obama could continue to do his high-wire act until the election.
It looks like Biden’s remarks really were unscripted and finally caused the MSM and the gay community to ask Obama a direct question – “Are you for it or against it?” He’s going to look pretty silly with that 2008 tape of him asserting that marriage is a “union ofa man and a woman” floating around.
This is the first time I have seen this president take a stand on principle.
It is a timid step because I am sure he knows that it will not change his chances in the election.
It is a flip flop and that sets him up for more hits. Why did he do it? The statement is very precise.
Does this mean that the president is moving to the LEFT for the general election, instead of the to the middle? (The conventional wisdom, as I’m sure all readers of this forum know, is that a candidate moves to the extreme for the primary and to the middle for the general.)
And can he win by moving to the left?
So he’s gone from “Leading from Behind” to “Leading with his behind.” Pretty much the same thing really. He’s been “presenting rearward” from day one.
I rather suspect that if Obama had endorsed “Gay Marriage” any earlier, the amendment measure in North Carolina would have passed by a 75-25 margin.
Now more than ever–find out what his base wants that most others do not, and threaten it.
I suggest, for starters, some kind of citizen’s Bill of Rights when dealing with the EPA, or maybe a review board composed of non-EPA/non-environmental movement ordinary learned citizens the EPA must go before to verify it is acting within proper bounds before any action is initiated. A grand jury-scheme, as it were, but with more tribune-type power.
question on gay marriage: if say one person in a marriage is gay, or bisexual, does that mean it is a gay marriage? just askin’. i think i may know a couple like that.
imho, barry-o is trying to find hot button topics to keep everybody busy so they won’t look too hard at his record, or his transparency. soon as this cools off he will find another. let’s see, there was paying for b.c. for women, and that went well enough. what’s next i wonder? six months is a long time to try to watch a skinny man in expensive suits fly around on our dime while dancing around the important issues.
Yes, this. My FB gay friends are all busy writing checks to the one. I keep telling them they’re being played. The socons are being played too btw since I’ve seen multiple eruptions of stupid on that side of the aisle as well.
Oh and upthread, the fudgepacking jokes were old and stale before you made them. Do any of you yahoos actually know actual gay people?
People say that no one is hurt by gay marriage, but I think a good number of people have been hurt. They’re just invisible – or ignored by supporters of gay marriage. They are orphans and unwanted children.
In Boston, the city’s oldest, largest and most reputable adoption agency for over 100 years, run by Catholic Charities, was forced to close when it could not get an exemption from government law mandating adoption by gay couples. The reaction of the law’s supporters was ‘shock’. Shock that people had moral values that they would stand by. They couldn’t imagine such a thing.
This has happened across the country in states that have similar laws in effect. To the best of my knowledge, no gay group or group supporting gay marriage has done anything to help these orphans. Perhaps, the various states have tried to fill the breech.
I’ll leave it to Zombie to ‘duke it out’ and commit journalism and find out what has happened to the kids that the Catholic Charities once cared for and found homes for. Perhaps, she’ll find a happy ending. I sincerely hope so.
Maybe Obama thinks the gay vote will blow him back into White House in November.
