That an industry exists in this country wherein holding a majority political persuasion is something to be hidden from scrutiny is not new; indeed, part of PJ Media’s mission is to destroy the liberal stranglehold on Hollywood and news media. Of course the following should not be “something” in any industry, but it still is:
BLIND GOSSIP 04/23 **#2** In Hollywood, it’s popular to be socially liberal and a Democrat. This handsome American actor is an industry leader in supporting Democratic Party candidates. He has donated his time and money and creative fundraising ability to many Democratic causes. However, he has a secret about the way that he votes that only his close friends know. He publicly talks like a Democratic Party loyal. But he actually votes Republican. A lot.
The same nugget appeared elsewhere. With the way rumors spread in Hollywood, this post likely refers to the same guy:
POPBITCH 04/26 Which Hollywood megastar is very keen to keep one story out of the media — that they’ve become a strident, libertarian Neo-Con?
I know, there isn’t actually such thing as a “libertarian Neo-Con”, but at least the author is trying to convey that “the Right” is not a monolithic block of homophobic zombies. Baby steps. Or maybe not. “Libertarian Neo-Con” may just be too stupid to read anything into.
I don’t care what an individual chooses to expose about private belief (recall “the personal is the political”, the liberal fascist chant), and “outing” is pretty repugnant. Nothing wrong with guessing and then going about your day, though. So Robert Downey Jr. is already too well-known as a conservative, and “megastar” generally refers to the Brad Pitt crowd. So … hey, maybe Brad Pitt?

So…Hollywood is full of “loyalty” oafs?
Should we consider the fact that they used the term “neo-con” and not “warmonger” to be a positive baby step?
Hmmm. The “Neo-con” bit. Could it possibly be an aspersion as to ethnicity as had been quite popular a little while ago? Probably.
“Libertarian neo-con” makes a little more sense when you understand that among lefties, “neo-con” is dogwhistle for “wayward Jew”.
Talks and donates Democrat but secretly votes Republican. I’d hardly call that strident.
I thought “strident” was even funnier than “libertarian Neo-Con.” I know I keep my own secrets vociferously, don’t you?
They would do well for themselves if Hollywood elites knew this–power in America comes from having the support of the active element of the people. If I was a Hollywood type wih some kind of power, I personally would not bet such stranglehold by being ruthlessly for a political philosophy and excommunicating all who oppose me if at the same time my largest unreservedly-supporting power base among the people rested among the “Kardashian/Snookie” sorts. They are usually not the kinds who are going to be able to save you if other parts of the middle class start getting irritated at your relentless proseltyzing, and start voting with their pocketbooks–because the second is not going to be guided by the first.
I look forward to Hollywood being replaced by some other American media center, perhaps Atlanta, because it is an industry, esp. the movie portion, which can be financially broken–at least as far as American revenues are concerned–and should be. Remember the Non-Intercourse Acts of the colonial period, and the succeses they gave. People need to stop subsidizing those who think they should be the dictators of values, while possessing only the most common and often seemingly shallow sort themselves.
Hollywood, of course, will not go bankrupt. They can make money overseas. But once they give up on the American market, why then should they be listened to in America? Besides, there is money to be made making movies for Americans, in America, for the Americans as they are today, not as some would wish to mold them into being. There is American money to be made in doing that. Not making movies for insiders and foreign markets, not making movies designed to show off cinematic skills and techniques rather than tell epic stories. But money in making good American movies for a good American middle class that is a little more “diverse” in political opinion than will be found at a Bel Air cocktail party. There ismoney to be made there.
Someone should do it.
The Joker: As a follow-up to your comment, I have my own little boycott going. I no longer go to Hollywood movies in movie theaters. (The last movie I saw was Star Wars, part 2 (the prequel). I did not go to part 3 because of its anti-Bush/anti-American overtones. Occasionally, I will watch movies on demand, but only when I must because company is present. I think it would be good idea if all Right-thinking people just skipped Hollywood movies.
Sadly, I won’t be going to see Iron Sky. Looked hilarious, but apparently the Palin character (and maybe the American government for the last 40 years) is working with the Moon Nazis.
(Just read an interview with the director at the UK Daily Mail.)
Which Hollywood megastar is very keen to keep one story out of the media — that they’ve become a strident, libertarian Neo-Con?
Does not compute. “Passionate,” yes, but “strident?” If you’re not willing to come out in the open and say, “I’m a conservative Republican and proud of it!,” then you aren’t strident. Strident implies overt. Ted Nugent is strident. Ann Coulter is strident. “Strident” and “secrecy” do not go together.
As to “libertarian neo-con,” most of the “neo-cons” I’ve seen referenced by the left are Jews who question the party line. *gasp!* Thinking for themselves? No way! What’s wrong with them!
This handsome American actor is an industry leader in supporting Democratic Party candidates.
Note that there’s no indication here that this individual monetarily supports the candidates. He probably does, but it doesn’t sound like he hosts $37,500/plate fundraisers for the Obamas.
He has donated his time and money and creative fundraising ability to many Democratic causes.
This is rich. What exactly is a “Democratic cause?” Because if it’s related to healthcare, poverty, domestic violence, animal abuse, homelessness, etc, etc, here’s a newsflash.
REPUBLICANS CARE ABOUT THOSE THINGS, TOO.
The only difference is conservative Repubs don’t believe in picking the pockets of the American taxpayer to pay for “charity.” We believe in actual CHARITY charity. I know, it’s a fine distinction; difficult for lefties to discern the difference. But I won’t make fun of them for their stupidity. It’s not nice to make fun of the mentally deficient.
All things said, I have absolutely no idea who’s “hot” in Hollywood at this point. I stopped paying attention somewhere around 2004 and haven’t gone back since.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie did want at one time to bring Atlas Shrugged to the screen. She, at least, is reportedly an admirer of Ayn Rand.
Yeah, I say Brad. How’s he getting along with his “father” in law?
As a conservative working in Hollywood, I am amused and often mystified by the amount of absolute hate directed at my industry and at all of us who work in show business. There are plenty of conservatives in Hollywood. We don’t run around shouting it from rooftops. We don’t make viral videos proclaiming our political opinions. The people who do that make up .01% of the industry.
Why don’t we Hollywood conservatives occupy our time expressing our political beliefs? Simple answer: we are too busy working. I certainly cannot speak for all conservatives in Hollywood — but I know quite a few. We don’t have time for that sort of thing. We vote conservative. We donate money to conservative causes and to conservative candidates. At times, we attend conservative fund raisers. But we (conservatives) don’t waste time being preaching our beliefs; it falls on deaf ears out here.
For the record — it has nothing to do with fear of repercussions within the industry. That is a myth. Outsiders postulate that we will be “black balled” if Hollywood power players knew of our conservative views. That just isn’t the case. 90% of my clients are liberal. They all know I am a staunch conservative. No client, in 20 years, has fired me over political disagreements. 70% of my business associates and colleagues are liberal. Most of those folks know I am conservative, as well. Yet I have never been denied anything business related, based on my politics. There is no “outing.” There is no “black balling” of conservatives. There is no fear. There is no liberal Hollywood conspiracy to silence us.
I wish outsiders had more respect for the hardworking people in Hollywood. Some are conservative, while more are liberal. The commonality: most of us do not make millions of dollars. Few actors (less than 1%), earn a legitimate annual salary from acting endeavors. Most of them have 2nd and 3rd jobs. And not every agent, manager, director, writer, casting director, producer, etc. is making millions of dollars either. Hardly. The very large majority of us are regular, hard working people, trying to make ends meet, just like the rest of America. Granted, the majority of people in Hollywood are liberal — but being liberal in Hollywood — certainly is not a requirement to succeed.
Please do not lump all of us into the Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie tax bracket. The actors you see, starring on TV series and in films, are the vast minority. Many of my clients (actors and writers) barely make $50K/year. The public would be shocked to know how many people work in the entertainment business. There are so many people, behind the scenes, about which you never hear. And there are a lot of folks who are conservative — we’re just too busy working — to blast the world with our views. Further, few of us are “famous.” Even if we did spout off about politics, no one would listen. We don’t have a platform or an audience. So you don’t hear from us or about us.
That is my two cents — for what it is worth. Now I better go work and earn some money.
