The remains of a soldier who went missing in action during the Korean War have been identified and will buried Wednesday at Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon announced today.
Army Cpl. Patrick R. Glennon of Rochester, N.Y., was holding a defensive position with G Company, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division along the Nammyon River near Unsan, North Korea, when they were attacked by Chinese forces. Glennon was listed as missing in action following the heavy fighting.
The Korean War POW/MIA Network lists 11 others MIA, 3 POWs and 5 believed killed in enemy hands from the same battle.
His remains were among those handed over to New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson when he visited Pyongyang in 2007. Glennon’s dog tags were with the remains, but the scientists from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command and the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory verified the identification.
More than 7,900 Americans from the Korean War remain unaccounted for, according to the Defense Department.
