It was bound to happen: The “Wear hoodies in sympathy with Trayvon” and “Wear hijabs in sympathy with Shaima” movements have now officially merged. At 7:30 tonight in Oakland a “Hoodie and Hijab March” in solidarity with not only Travon Martin and Shaima Al Awadhi but also Oscar Grant and Bobby Hutton will pass through downtown and — if things go as planned — degenerate into this week’s scheduled riot:

For those who need a scorecard for this pantheon of politicized victims:
• Trayvon Martin is the African-American teenager killed in a highly controversial and racially charged incident in Florida last month. Sympathizers have taken to wearing hoodies (which Trayvon was wearing when he was shot) as a sign of solidarity.
• Shaima Al Awadhi is an Iraqi-American woman killed in her El Cajon home by persons unknown; a note purportedly found at the scene is being touted as evidence of a hate crime, although police are still investigating and there is some evidence that the killing was not a stranger murder. Even so, activists have encouraged non-Muslims to wear hijabs (which Shaima wore) to show their beliefs that Shaima was killed because of her religion or culture.
• Oscar Grant was an African-American man who died after being shot by a BART police office in Oakland in 2009; although the officer was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to two years in prison, activists claim that the shooting was intentional, not accidental.
• Bobby Hutton was one of the original members of the Black Panther Party who was killed during a shootout with the Oakland police in 1968.
All four are considered by activists to be victims of politically-motivated violence, though in each case circumstances are unclear and there’s no real proof that any of their deaths had anything to do with bigotry or politics.
Normally I don’t post about events before they happen, but in this case I can state unreservedly that I will not be running through the streets of Oakland tonight in a hijab or hoodie. As luck would have it, I’m having an emergency root canal at 7:30pm, so I guess I’ll have to miss the Hoodie and Hijab March. Shucks!

Be careful what you wish for. The political black community, rather than enjoy the symbolism and reality of what the Obama Presidency has meant, have chosen instead to act as if slavery has made a come back and in this sense, the Obama era has been a disaster for the black community. Now, that community has shot itself in the foot over the Martin fiasco, from the NBA showing it’s true colors to a moronic congresswoman in Florida who dresses like a stripper in a Bangkok whore house and talks like Joseph Goebbels, empowered by the very thing black folks say white folks do but don’t, vote by skin in a district this bizarre woman is from that is 55% black.
Now this. There is no cure for stupidity as this Martin affair has shown that at least when it comes to prominent black personalities, they are incapable of using tools of self-criticism or context, and to be third-rate thinkers not to mention incredible advocates by skin, right or wrong a complete irrelevance. How does one use dialogue to combat such willful ignorance? One would think such people would rush for the doors and attack the locks that keep them captives in America, to places where there are non-racist police as well as hijabs galore. That won’t happen because this is all as pure an expression of bullshit as one is ever going to encounter in life.
Yep, better safe than sorry on this one! But I just want to take this opportunity to thank you again for all you do, Z. The photographic evidence and eyewitness accounts of these events are extremely valuable, your commentary is entertaining and your courage is inspiring.
If I really had courage, I’d be out there in a hijab. But alas, it will take someone with a stronger constitution than mine to participate in and document this particular protest. But the compliments are appreciated, even if they overstate the case for my personal bravery!
How about a “Hunky Mohamed” outfit; tell them the gays made you do it and Easter directions.
I wonder what the good ol’boys in northern Idaho think about the Hommies, and moon god worshipers getting together for an evening of I hate America.
Perhaps, General Powell, and Justice Thomas will be guest speakers on how to be an Uncle Tom. Sec. of State Condi Rice could play a song like Camp Town Races, or Swing low Sweet Chariot.
You know, it goes like this…slaps leg
Camp Town Races five miles long
Doda Doda
Camp Town Races five miles long
Oh Dodaday
Goin to run all night
Goin to run all day
I’m goin to bet on the bobtail mare
You can bet on the bay
Get the lyrics right.
And I have no idea what you’re trying to say, btw.
Camptown ladies sing this song:
Doodah, doodah
Camptown racetrack five mile long
Oh, the doodah day
Going to run all night;
Going to run all day;
Bet my money on the bob-tail nag,
Somebody bet on the bay.
I think he’s referring to this post-racial minstrel show, with everyone waving history books that end in 1854.
Firstly, I doubt there will be many if any Muslims at the march. The whole point behind the “Million hijabs for Shaima” movement is that non-Muslim American liberals start wearing hijabs to show solididarity with our Muslim brothers. And if hey, some of them then decide to go all the way and convert, then it’s a two-fer! (At least from CAIR’s point of view.)
As for “Hommies” (I think you mean “homies”), the Occupy movement, (which co-sponsors this event) even in Oakland, is at least 90% white. Again, the whole point is that the people who wouldn’t normally wearing such a garment do so for a while, in a sort of “I am Spartacus!” attempt to make the cops unable to be prejudiced against black people in hoodies, because now all the white people are wearing hoodies as well, and you just can’t tell who’s who any more! Or so goes the theory.
Finally, your comments about Powell, Thomas and Rice went right over my head. I realize it’s sarcasm, but I just don’t get it.
The actual lyrics are, by the way:
The Camptown ladies sing this song,
Doo-da, Doo-da
The Camptown racetrack’s five miles long
Oh, doo-da day
Gwine to run all night
Gwine to run all day
Bet all my money on the bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the bay
This crap going on in America is FUBAR. Instead of being like Powell, Thomas, and Rice, it is better to be a hater of America, and part of the problem. So, that stupid marxist side of government plantation, and race politics gets us a great night in Oakland, complete with Ebonics, not being like the honorable individuals I listed. Who are all black, and made it in America better than most.
Hey Dianna,
What are you going to do if I do not get the lyrics correct? Busta cap on me?
No. I’d just ask you not to set my teeth on edge.
BTW, thanks for explaining what you meant. Your first post lacked clarity.
Maybe ‘Hommies’ are commie-homies. Two for one!
BTW, where the big march against black-on-black killings? Where’s the big march against gang-bangers? Guess there ain’t one, eh?
Actually, every now and then some Oakland (or Richmond) pastor does do a march to “Stop the Killings!” of black-on-black violence. But the marches never do any good; one of the anti-black-on-black vigils in Richmond was itself shot up by gangbangers doing a drive-by. In another instance recently in Oakland, after one black teen killed another, the black Christian groups did a “stop the violence” march, and about 90 minutes after it concluded there were three retaliatory murders.
Absolutely futile.
There’s a nonprofit in Oakland that tries to intervene and keep young people from participating.
While my heart goes out to them, I’m not sure that it’s anything except futile.
The name of the organization is Start Strong.
“Progressives” tend to limit their protests to situations where there is little chance that the supposed evil force they are protesting will come after them. They also want to feel that their protests can “make a difference”. The futility of protesting against black-on-black violence makes it unattractive as a “cause”. Therefore, it should be ignored or blamed on extraneous elements so progressives can feel righteous rather than helpless.
Other than the anti-capitalist Black Panther Bobby Hutton (1968), I have a hard time seeing a clear connection between capitalism and these deaths. A real epidemic they have going there if they have to go back to 1968 to find four martyrs to a racist capitalist police state.
And given the tensions reported in the family of the Muslim woman who was murdered, they are really jumping the gun there. Oh, well. It’s The Narrative that matters.
Funny seeing these lyrics gone over: I just now finished a novel that uses the lyrics as quotes and the title is Britetown Races. It is unpublished so it’s not a plug.
– just another night in Murder Town, U.S.A.
We’ve been subjected to the masked Anonymous of OWS infamy, followed by Trayvon Martin hoodies and now hijabs. Why is the left so obsessed with head coverings? If these “progressives” are really proud of their message (whatever it may be at the moment), why are they so fixated on hiding their faces? It reminds me of another group from the dark side of our nation’s history. That evil mob wore white sheets, lynched people they didn’t like and burned crosses. They also happened to be the enforcement arm of the Democrat Party. But surely that’s only a coincidence?
And what kind of headgear do we wear if we want to march for justice for Brian Terry and Jamie Zapata?
blacks are being sucked into being ‘abeeds’ for the ARAB culture of islam for the benefit of the ARAB based muslim culture..
while muslims kill their muslimahs and run away to their muslim nations, they expect ‘abeeds’ to take up the ARAB muslim cause and sacrifice themselves to bring down the ONLY nation that did all it could to crush inequality and slavery (barbary wars and abolitionism)
black muslims are the most evil people on the face of the planet..
– took public transit in D.C. Returning from one of her speeches, she asked a hobo leaning on a lamp post in her distinct cadence:
“Do cross-town buses run at night?” He replied:
“Doo dah, doo dah!”
De Occupy folks sing this song
Dada! Dada!
Listen to dat whining song
Dada and Ma must pay!
Dey’s mostly all white!
Hear dem roar and bray!
Been ‘lowed to camp out far too long
Make dem go away!
One of the few times that an emergency root canal can be considered a blessing! Good luck.
